Anyone not ask for knives for Xmas since it would reveal their worth?

My wife asked if I wanted a blade for Xmas and to tell her which one. Without thinking I said "I've been lusting after a zero tolerance 0551". Today she texts me and says " do you have any idea how much that costs? Is this what all your knives cost? are you telling me that you have that much money tied up in overpriced things, some you dont even use?"

Some quick thinking this time around I replied "no honey, that's why I've been drooling over it from a far."

So I learned something, to always tell her I want a less expensive blade to avoid any confrontation. Now, I buy and sell and move and shake and work my ass off to have my "play" money that I use for knives, and I disclose what I get and she doesn't give a damn and doesn't wanna talk about it. But when she tries to buy me one I want, that clues her in to just how much my collection is worth. Anyone else avoid asking for Knives for fear that they will disclose just how much your collection is actually worth? Merry Xmas btw.

Normally I ask for a bit of cash to go toward a knife and hint at the actual price. Basically I still get whatever I wanted without the fuss, even if I have to put a bit toward it.

This year I'm asking for money so I can renew my NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) membership so I can once again have access to the job bulletin board. Thankfully, my CSCS certification has already been renewed, so that's one less fee for me to worry about. So no, not asking for knives. Far from it.

Although if I had my way, I'd pay Darrel off to rush my custom knife order that's probably nearing 2 years since I conceived it.

My wife and family have given up trying to get me knives for B-days and Christmas. They know I have more knowledge, and make a point of giving myself knives throughout the year. They all have taken up trying to figure out what else I like, and it's always intesting to see what they come up with.

I would feel awful asking for what I really want. No one should have to spend that much money on me, but me. Now, convincing the wife that there's enough extra money in the budget for my addiction is another story. I get by by saying that I spend less than 1% of my income on knives, and she gets the rest.

Damn Clich.... Just went through that same ordeal.... She actually picked the ZT 301...... Ordered it for me and then started looking at my other toys prices.... Damn what have I done... Ordered the custom Kydex from Tie Tactical..... She started probing me for info..... How much were they?.....they are awesome by the way.... Will post pics later tonight... Mike

Ha ha! I've got a few stories like yours, clich! Whoa!

Women just don't understand the "knife" thing. To us, they're nearly priceless tools. To most others, they're just something you use to slice potatoes or to spread orange marmalade on an English muffin with.

It's a sad state of affairs, if you ask me.

Guns?? Let's not go there.

Sure.

My wife asked me for knives. Like, a boot knife, and one to tape inside her purse for slashing muggers.

LadyMoose nor anyone else buys me knives. Its kinda "my thing", so.....

She also knows how much my knives cost, and she also knows that I spend what I want, when I want, within reason. There are reasons why I don't have any RMK's or heavy ZT's, or the Canal Street knives I covet so much. Somewhere, my hedonistic knife addiction must reigned in, and I can honestly say, I don't cross that line. Much.

I do however tend to spend thousands of dollars around Christmas, for family and friends, plus, I give alot away to charities, and different organizations. I figure it balances out, when spring comes and I'm getting boxes of knives, and buying new outdoor gear.
