come on up to Vancouver BC for a brew or fifty!
Awww B5, I SO would come on up, but alas, no passport. If I had more time prior to travelling I would've gotten one. Last time I was up your way, I had one helluva time and wanted to check out the area lots more.
Be careful with any kind of backpacking stoves in your luggage. No white gas types of any kind, even new, never used. TSA has a real thing about that.
And remember, it is against the law to hunt big feet in most SW Washington counties, particularly around Stevenson. The problem is the county could never keep the warning signs up along the highways.
All these rules kinda suck actually.
No, anything I am travelling with will be minimal. I mean, from what I understand;
No on:
firesteels
liquids more than 3 oz and no flammables
knives or blades just about of any kind (so I believe my leatherman would definitely be out of the question, I am not modifying it at all)
axes, hammers, saws
strike anywhere matches
I've thought about sending myself a package with at least my one of my mora's & my cheap multitool (I don't trust UPS or USPS).
I should compile a list of what I want to bring then call TSA and ask them what on my list would or would not be restricted.
I figure a list would include a majority of my small edc & a majority of the bottle kit I stuffed:
I may try squishing my TAD round and the recon pouches in my carry on, so I can use it on the hikes I'll be trying to get in.
1st Recon (most of my EDC):
small bic (which you can carry on your person or in carry on)
2 germ-X antibacterial wipes
chapstick
condom (unlubricated)
separated and compressed jute
compass
immodium
a few pieces of snare wire (they're fishing leaders, I'll fill ya in later)
2 alcohol prep swabs
2 Lipton green tea pkgs
10-20' length of orange masonry line
Light My Fire Fork/Spoon
small pill container with a few cubes of bullion
On the outside of the Round Pouch:
whistle
mini mag light
a spotlit
In the Round pouch:
cheap poncho
bandana
pocket medic FAK
2 instant coffee pkgs
2 Lipton Green Tea pkgs
stainless steel camp cup for the bottom of the Kanteen
2nd Recon pouch:
small 3"x5" notebook w/ fine sharpie
signal mirror
coughlans can opener
more lengths of preset snare wires
approx. 15' of duct tape rolled onto itself
approx. 100 yds thin line(1 is like thread, the other is like black masonry line)
small baggie of char cloth
a small roll of toilet paper
I'll more than likely remove the nail clippers, the altoids tin of fatwood shavings, the knife sharpening stone, the 2nd bic lighter, the pill container that contains a mini fire kit, the small metal waterproof pill tube with a dozen strike anywhere matches, the box cutter, the credit card wallet tool, the magnesium/firesteel bar, the other firesteel(from the EDC), the tubes of water purification tablets... and I think that's it.
Dang, that's alot of stuff... I know there's plenty of redundancy, I'm new, you'll have to excuse me. Also, If I have one pouch for an EDC, not everything is with me. When I hike, I'll grab the Round w/ the Recon attached and sling that. I'll have to go on my previous pic post from the end of March hike & list everything shown.
Anyone have any further ideas about what I should think about leaving or adding?
I don't know how much hiking I'm gonna get in. But I'm hoping for a load. One of the places we're gonna go to is Multinomah Falls, I was also thinking maybe Mt St. Helens trails. I know 4 1/2-5 days isn't going to be enough.
BTW, that hunting Bigfoot stuff being a crime... WOW...
& Ron Athay, is that still going on at the end of the month? I'll be out there 4/29 & be heading back to the Windy City on 5/4.
River 8, I'm going to have to keep that in mind. I'll be kind of at the mercy of my hosts, seeing I'm not renting a vehicle while in town. But you can bet, if I can wrangle them to shoot out your way, we will.
Thanks for all your help everyone. I really appreciate it.
