hi today i was at a local mall which happend to sell cutlery items. i saw this wicked looking clip point bladed spyderco that i have never seen before. it was 185.00 only thing it was the display model so i got 10% off which was cool. i tried looking it up on my blackberry to find the value of the knife but couldnt find anywhere to compare my price so i bought it just cuz of the looks of it which i like very much. anyone else out there own a spyderco chinook 1 in cpm s30v and is my price reasonable for what i paid for it ? and if so what do they normally go for? thanks for anyone who replies to my post it would help me out and help my curiosity.

Oh yeh, definitely worth what you paid for. It's an excellent knife and it's discontinued. I see a chinook 2 at ebay going for over $300. Chinook 1's are hard to find.

whoa 300 bucks for a newer version ? omg i guess i purchasing it was a great idea hmmm now i think i will be collecting it instead of edcing it lol.

Great idea? That's an understatement. I have 3 chinook 3's and I stopped trying to get a chinook 1 a long time ago because of what they were going for every time one came up for sale on the exchange. Congratulations on an awesome knife.

If it was me, it would be my main carry. But that's me. :D

None were made in VG-10. Most first gen were 440V with a small run made in S30V.

The rarest Chinook 1s were made with S30V steel. You have a rare knife there, I hope you kept the box.

Thanks. Sad part is I remember reading that thread.

yeah i have the original box to it which is sweet looking too lol old school box even tho im new to collecting knives i have only five spydercos and the chinook being my last addition to my collection. i saw a blue yojimbo and i think soon i will be also picking it up i cant wait till the newer one comes out. you think 180 is too high for a blue yojimbo?

here's picks of my spydie collection and my newest addition the chinook 1 im a sucky photographer using a crappy blackberry camera phone. let me know what u think. alright sweet i will pick up the blue yojimbo asap. weird thing about this store is they over price most of there normal knives you can purchase easily at online knife shops for example they had a spyderco pkal for 239.00 which is way overpriced i think right ?

You will find that most brick and mortar stores sell their cutlery wares at or slightly below MSRP more so than online shops.

I don't have the s30v version but my cpm 440V is one heck of a knife. You got a great deal.

jason p does your chinook 1 deploy fast or slow cuz mine is wicked slow. i own a endura 4 ffg blue frn handle it its fast. since the knife i bought was a displayed model i dont think they maintained it well at all. should i oil the pivot? or would that ruin the value of the knife? how do u maintain your chinook ? i know its not the same blade steel but except that they are the same knife right ?

As far as I know, same knife different blade steel. I've been a firearms instructor for 12 years and have LOTS of cleaning equipment. When my knives get a little slow, I put a drop of break free on the pivot. It only takes one drop but after I put on the drop, I work the blade a bit and it seems to work like a champ. If you plan on using the knife, try a drop of lubricant on the pivot and "learn the knife" Due to its large size, it took a bit longer to be able to flick it as fast as some of my others. I have the endura 4 ffg as well and I can flick the chinook out just as fast but it took practice and a little wrist action.

thats cool your a firearms instructor i still need to get my pistol permit soon someday. yeah i will put some oil on it and practice my deployment. thanks for answering my questions.

Chinooks respond very well to spydie drops. ;)
