Anyone own a Ghurka Kukri SK-5 and convex it??

Hello, i'm wondering if anyone has convexed there ghurka kukri, i didnt like the way mine chopped wood with the factory edge so i made an attempt at convexing it from watching youtube tutorials and using sandpaper, but i ended up scratching the blade up, even scratched the ghurka symbols, not really sure if i should have even attempted this since the blade isnt as sharp as when i got it, but i do like the way it bites into wood now
 
I picked up two of them in Nepal. The steel was a little soft on both, I ended up ditching them out of frustration. I hear since that there was a coveted run from England, not sure about details.
