Anyone Own A Hygrometer?

I'm sure a lot of us have been experiencing record breaking heat over the last few days. I know where I live in Southern California it was 112F yesterday, the old record was 100F.

I ran into my tenant, and of course we discussed the weather. I felt it was humid as hell, and he felt it was like a dry Palm Springs desert heat!

Anyway, I already have a wireless electronic weather station that shows me changes in barometric pressure, and the temperature indoors and outdoors at three different locations. I'd like to add a hygrometer just so I know exactly how humid it actually is outside.

I know there are several different kinds of hygrometers. Am I corrrect in assuming that the electric types are more accurate than the gauge types that use the stretching of something like a human hair to measure humidity?

I did a quick internet search, and there seems to be quite a few different types on sale for $20 or less. Interestingly, almost all of these seem to be intended to keep track of the humidity of the place where people store their cigars!

Can anyone recommend a specific model or offer any useful advice?

I have for my homebrewing. Maybe you can get one with a kit. That way, you can also make some beer.

Sounds like a no-brainer. :)

Hygrometer-measures humidity
hydrometer-measures specific gravity of a liquid (i.e. how much alcohol is in your beer)
