Think of picking one up for my collection. Wondering about the quality. Thanx.

I had a plainedge black blade and I carried it every day for the better part of 2 years.

My take on it is:
440V takes a toothy edge and holds it for a long time.
G10 is textured just enough to be good for grip without being overly hard on the pockets.
Thumb stud is a little small and sharp, you will wear a hole in your thumb flicking this thing open it is adictive.
Heavy for it's size due to the steel liners.
Would, in my opinion, benefit from a thumb scallop near the lock bar.
Good clip placement.

If I still carried production knives I'd consider getting one again.

quality is outstanding, Ive been carrying one for over three years (since, when they first came out). I have the old model and the newer, somewhat newer black coated blade. I always strop mine on leather to touch the dge up. Its a good knife, one of my favorites!!!

Im with Rev_

I just got one (plainEdge) a couple of weeks ago and im very impressed with the quality. Fit and finish is top notch. It is heavy, but the liners are quite thick and the knife feels very solid in the hand. I just wish it had Ambi-thumb studs.

I just got mine in the mail today and so far it seems like an outstanding knife, like others have said the g10 is great - compared to other knives i've handled, it's not overly aggressive and sharp, but plenty "grippy". it goes without saying that the blade comes razor sharp, and I actually tested it by shaving some hair with it... sharper than any razors i've got right now...that is probably why I haven't shaved in a few weeks... the handle just fits the hand great too... I haven't really noticed any real problems with it yet... I like the weight myself.. it feels very sturdy. Although it is a small bladed knife, it just feels like something you could defend yourself with, although I wouldn't want to try... no one wins in a knife fight... Just based on my initial impressions, i would say definatly pick one up - I don't know about the long term strength of the knife yet, but I think it will hold up no problem. However, i have read some posts and other various places that the torsion bars can break if you flip around with it all the time, but Kershaws customer service is supposedly top rate and they will send replacement parts in no time...

I can agree with what people wrote above. I love my Avalanche and I really wonder why that high quality knife doesn't seem to be very popular. The G-10 is great and the knife feels very strong. It's easy to see why it is one of the most expensive Kershaw knives. I'd certainly recommend it. Here is a picture of my Avalanche.

I have an Avalanche and I like it a lot. I agree with the others, the quality is very good. The G10 scales on the Avalanche are great. I love the way this knife feels in my hand. Of the knives that I own, the scales on the Avalanche are my favorite.

You can find them for under $65.
For that kind of price I don't see how you can beat the Avalance.

I echo kevronicus. I sold mine a while ago and have missed it. If only they'd add a flipper I would buy another in a heartbeat, but the small thumbstud annoyed me.

yeah, after using it for a day, the only flaw i can find is the thumbstud.. .that thing will tear up your thumb really quick if you just sit around using it.. but... it looks like it is just attached with a phillips screw.. so i guess it would be easy to swap for something better...

Very good knife with premium steel blade, which now is hard to find:

I have no problrm with thumbstud - don't even notice it really. First what I noticed was that G10 is kind of rough, but then I get used with this. At some point spring in SpeedSafe broke, I remove it and keep it as 100% manual action - Kershaw may fix it for free but I like it this way better. Still this it excellent knife, with very comfortable grip and I like it a lot.

Thanks, Vassili.

The g-10 is rough, its made that way, but carry it longer enough it will "loose its edge" (so to speak).

The knife is a "sleeper" its a shame, it should'nt be. Ive laways liked it since they first came out years ago. I talked to Ken Onion (really nice guy) about it a couple years ago and I was telling him what a great edc it was and how its good for everything!!! He told me he was glad I recoginized that as that was the purpose he designed it for! An "edc" for everything!!!

mine has been camping, hiking, traveling. Its been half way around the world, and then some. Ive used this knife for everything, whittling, cutting strings, boxes, etc. etc. etc.

Mine came with a lot of blade play. I have an early version. I need to get around to sending it to Kershaw for tweaking, or replacement.

wade, that really stinks. I have owned about 7 of them and have never had a problem with any. Four of them I have were early ones. I would definitely send it back and get it fixed, or replaced.

Thanks, Vassili.
