What's up folks.

I have an '04 Large Regular Serrated Sebenza seen below. I'm just starting to realize that i've never seen another. Obviously they exist, but i'm just curious how rare are they? Anyone out there know how many were made? or if you have one please say so. Needless to say...awesome knife!

thanks

I dont think the teeth are a popular option on the sebenza due to more effort to keep sharp in the field.

I can see why that is likely. Although this is not the best pic to show it, the serrations on this sebenza are perfectly spaced (IMO), and have a very useful & practical depth. They are not too grippy, but grippy enough to tear while also maintaining the ability to slice.

I am a relatively inexperienced sharpener and I'm still pretty confident in touching up this knife.

another forum member here I know has a '99 serrated large regular. I'll see if I can get him to get me a picture.

I don't know the year on mine, but I have one of the old serrated large regulars, BG-42. The serrations are no problem to sharpen, being flat-topped. You just sharpen the edge the way you would a plain edge. I picked up a Stars & Stripes front slab to dress it up.

i agree. as i mentioned earlier, i have very little experience sharpening, and i find it pretty easy to maintain the edge on that knife. (not to be confused with a re-profiling or anything, just touch ups)

IMO, aside from sharpening, the flat-topped serrations make a world of difference in terms of practicality. I always found serrations to be annoying, simply because i'm not sawing, tearing through tires or cutting through seat belts day to day. There's no doubt, the average serrated blade makes very very quick work of certain chores, but for most EDC uses, i always preferred a plain edge. I would say the serrations on this knife can really do it all, it is the quintessential combo blade.

I would love to see a pic of your sebe! thanks.

I can't speak to the serrated Sebbie's rarity, but I also know someone who has a large serrated Sebbie Regular in BG-42 and he loves it. It's his EDC.

I see them pop up from time to time, so I don't think they are super rare. But they are somewhat rare. I thought I read that Chris isn't producing serrated blades anymore -- maybe someone can confirm or disaffirm that?

I have seen some new ones for sale at dealers.. so I guess they are still making them. Here is a link to one for sale right now from a dealer..

I suppose I should have mentioned clearly that I am really only curious about the Lg Regular serrated, not the Lg 21. However if anyone has one of those and would like to chime in with their opinion, I am curious what people think of it.

Bladeart and several other deals used to have them often several years ago. I am unsure when the style of serrations changed, but it might have been in the last 5 years. Chad, the style you have appears to be the older style in my opinion.

well, like i mentioned, i've never seen another like mine. So to compare an old to new style, i would definitely agree mine is an(if not the) old style. I know others exist, and obviously there are serrated 21 sebenzas available as we speak, however i still don't think there are many Lg Regular s30v serrated sebenzas out there.

I feel lucky to have it.

I like it as it makes quick work of boxes, but mine has serrations on both sides the regular appears to have it only one side. I have a few CRK knives now and always look to carry the partially serrated 21. I don't find it too difficult to touch up on the sharpmaker and I'm not a pro at sharpening by no means.

thanks for sharing, that's good to know. Sometime in the future i think i might look into getting one of those.

Chad, let me check my back up har drive for some older sebenza photos. I think I have one of an older unique graphic with them.

Big thanks to DBH having been the original owner! (that is you right?)
