I was reading about a surefire e2d, for self defence. It said its super bright and has a special bezel ? If you own one ,what do you think of it? Is it really that bright?

I think this is the same light as the E2E, except for the "tactical" bezel. The E2E is very bright, in fact, super bright. My only problem with the Surefire flashlights is that they will get pretty hot around the head after they've been on for awhile. I would imagine, though, that the LED versions are better in that respect.

I have one. Yeah it is bright but I got sick of spending all my money on those damn batteries. So I put a KL1 head on it and get much better run time at the sacrifice of the floodlight. The LED head defeats the purpose of having the E2D model but its the way I have it set up right now.

If you want a smoother even wide beam, you can pop on a Surfire beam filter on the heads of the KL1/ 3 series bezels. If you want the E series head to double as a strike tool, then get a GG&G TID attachment. The high count sharp "teeth" is many times more effective than the crenulated head of the E2D model.

i have had an E2e with & without a GG&G TID, and with a KL1 head, and a E2D and must say my fav SF lite for edc is a E2e w/a KL1 head, i didnt like the TIDs on the E2e anyway, maybe on a Z3 or a M3, just made it too heavy for me, and the crenellations on the E2d i wasnt nutz about either, they are hard on your pants pockets, if ya plan on packing one get a belt sheath imho, like i say my fav is a E2e w/a KL1, #2 would be probably a std E2e, followed by the E2d, followed by the E2e w/the TID, all are good lites though, i dont know how much ya could do with a E2 series lite as far as the bezel strikes at least not without training, ditto w/the E2e w/the TID, they are plenty bright imho in either the std E2e mode or the LED KL1, very little dimmer than a Z2, a little larger/heavier lite.

i swapped the E2d and the TID i had , FWIW, after i put the KL1 on my E2e.

Like Sifu, my experience has been that strike bezels are death for your pants. I cut a hole clean through the pocket of my favorite jeans within a couple weeks because of a light with a strike bezel on it.

IMO, a regular light used as a fistload or kubotan is just as effective as the strike bezel anyway, except it wouldn't leave superficial lacerations.

I use my E2Das pretty much my EDC light, and its bright enough. Ive got brighter LED lights but Im very impressed at the focus of the beam over a variety of distances. I carry mine in the Surefire sheath made for it (a V-something or other) but it did chew-up the Nylon of the pouch, I cured that by feeding a semi-rigid plastic tube into the sheath & now the light slides in-and-out easily.
The crenelated bezel is unusual, but IMHO, I dont think it would cause an attacker much more pain than being hit with, for example, a Maglite bezel.
Its a darn good torch, though.

I have a standard E2e and the additional KL1 and L4 bezel. Kl1 is great for longer runtime at 14-20 lumens. L4 led is as bright as but not as focused as the 60 lumen bulb.

If you want really eye searing tactical brightness--do some research on CPF for modifying the 120 lumen bulb to fit in the E2e head.

For me, a brighter tactical light that looks no different than any other light is a better use of my money. The TID just screams "security threat."
