Anyone own an Anza knife?

I've got a couple. The black handled one 2nd from right is an Anza. They are very well made and are real value for the money.

Ive never handled a file steel knife before, are they good? the prices look good, if the steel is worth checking out I may get one of the upswept knives.

Sure, I own several. 2 are customs made to my specs. They are excellent knives. Anza's owner/founder, Charlie Davis worked for Buck for many years. He started back when Buck knives were also ground from worn out files and quit after a falling out with the new generation at Buck. He then started his own business and continued making them that way. He uses Nicholson files. They are W-1 or W-2 carbon steel and take a fine edge and hold it well.

Good knives, great prices.

If I may also add, Charlie Davis used to handle the heat treatment at Buck before Paul Bos came into the picture. Ought to tell you something about his capabilities in making and keeping a knife sharp.

Only word of caution is that knives made from files will have more surface area because of all the 'texture' left after grinding the teeth off. You need to be extra careful about keeping them from rusting. I use wax because it stays where it's put.

IIRC, Charlie said he worked his way up to Production Manager after doing just about everything in between, or something along those lines. He was disgusted with Buck deciding on quantity over quality. He also disagreed with Buck continuing to go with cheaper and inferior steels.
Charlie is quite a character, if you want to learn alot about the knives call him about 3 pm Cali. time, that's when he usually takes his breaks. If you really want to hear something, get him going on the Buck incident. hehehe
