Good evening or morning, do any members own James Williams designed folders from crkt like the hissatsu or the otsnashi? If so What do you like about them? Thank you.

I had the otonashi for a while. It felt well built. I liked how solid the lock was (without the silly secondary lock active). Knife was slim, and sleek for such a huge knife. The blade style was definitely unique. It was a bit expensive for Aus 8 steel but I felt like the price was worth it for the design. Fairly thin blade too, which I liked. Don't think you'll be disappointed but be aware it is a huge folder.

Thanks for the info, I think that’s the model I’ll get and that’s what I’ve heard is that pics don’t do it justice to show how big it is. The secondary lock looks like a stange feature indeed.

have a Hissatsu and an Otanashi noh ken.

I like their designs and size of them. there are things I dont like about them but ya didnt ask that.:)

The second lock is pretty gimmicky but its easy to engage/disengage if you feel so inclined. Hope you enjoy it if you end up getting it

I had the Hissatsu at one time and thought it was a nice folder. Seemed pretty stout, but the assist was tough to activate so I took the spring out and made it a manual. Wound up giving it to my brother.

Sure do like the jim williams designs.
Despite this infamous test
Guess its up to crkt if the pivot should be upgraded...
Besides that the pivot area on the otanashi has a franken look about it with the placement of as oversized o-ring on the pivot which acts as the lock's back stopper.

Oh and there is a serrated version which might work for some but imo, its pretty odd looking.
If i had to choose between serrrated or plain edge, considering that it would take more to maintain such serrations, so the choice becomes obvious.
Despite its size, its pocketable and not at all cumbersome.
If one has to edc, try the smaller sized models. It's a blade style which is not for everyone, bit once smitten i m certain one wouldn't be enough.

I haven't owned any of the folders (CRKT's folders are generally too pricey for their shoddy QC) and really shouldn't be posting in this thread since I have nothing really to contribute, but...

The CRKT Sakimori is one of the nicer fixed blades I have owned, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

James Williams' designs are frequently as elegant as they are generally impractical. If you find yourself drawn towards one but are unsure, shop around for a bit and pick one up on sale or second-hand. The high price and niche market means there will almost always will be someone looking to offload it at a steep discount over retail price.

I have the sakimori and the shinbu. Kind of hard to believe they were made by CRKT. Very nice knives.

I have an Otanashi Noh Ken. If you want some pictures next to something like a Military/PM2 or a certain ZT, I can provide some.

Save some money and get this; then sell it to me at a huge discount.

OZF 001 built by Lionsteel. If you were planning on getting both CRKTs the OZF is not that much more expensive.

Fwiw my fav of all the hissatsu folder series is the heiho, aka the mini hissatsu. It’s one of the best edc folder, my designated carry option if im traveling and need a discreet edc. The plain edge version aren’t the best slicer but I got the one with veff serration, cuts through everything I want with no problem. The veff serration makes the tiny knife so much more useful in edc tasks.

I think williams designs are some of CRKT's best knives but be prepared to sharpen them yourself because they usually come with a pretty rough edge.

I bought this knife based primarily on this photo you posted;). Thank you.

And it's very nice. You pay more for the quality and name than you would for a run-of-the-mill CRKT, but then you get more. I forget what I paid but it was a pretty good deal as I remember.

I like it

How you liking it? Does it carry nicely or is it a big bulky knife?

Lionsteel recently released a nice fixed blade by the same designer.

Also do you know if the female side of the pivot is held in place by a D shaped barrel that fits into a D shaped hole in the lock side or is it free spinning?
