Anyone own Mcusta? Opinions?

I've recently started considering adding a Mcusta to my collection as they seem like a good deal. There aren't many folders on the market using VG10 steel that sell for under $100. I've never seen one in person though and wanted some opinions.

I have read many positive things about Mcusta on this forum. Do a search and you'll see many Mcusta owners are pretty impressed with their knives.

Regarding VG-10, I believe many Spydercos are VG-10. The Endura and Delica are VG-10 and they sell much less than $100.

Mcusta uses some pretty cool materials, but I think their designs are slightly clunky and could use some streamlining. Their damascus laminate over VG10 is pretty cool, and they have some great mokume bolsters, though. I think they're a great value.

I've had one in VG-10 with burl handles for about a year and a half now, well before all the recent hub-bub started. I saw it in the A.G Russell catalog and just had to try one. I love it. Very smooth and easy opening, solid lock up, very sharp, of course. A little chunky, yes, but a pure pleasure to hold and use. Everything is a compromise, right?

I handled one, and it was very smooth. The thing I didn't like about it was the liner lock. It was so thin, it looked flimsy, and it was too small. I handled the Yoroi, btw.

Take a look a Browing ice storm It made by mcusta with a VG10 blade and low rider pockey clip. I got mine for around $40 and looking for another

I have one, the cocobolo wood with Damascus steel blade, and I think it was a great bargain at about $100. The dang thing is WAY sharp right outa the box, very smooth to open.
I would definitely buy one again...

I don't yet own one, but I will soon. The knives I've seen at shows, and that my friends own have been VERY nice. Especially for what these knives cost.

I have the Gentles Folder in Green Micarta MC51D. Very sharp damascus with a VG10 core. The action is very precise and smooth. It has a unique look about it.

Spyderco offers many knives with VG 10 at $ 100 or less. I have both the Kopa in Micarta as well as the Viele 2. Each was around the $ 100 mark.

I have an Mcusta Kasumi. IMO, it is one of the most beautiful knives, period.

It comes razor sharp out of the box, and seems very solid for how small it is. It is delicate, but not fragile.

The fit and finish is good for a knife of the price, but not perfect. It opens very smoothly, and can be thumb-flicked open with ease.

The damascus cladding looks great. Some of their other designs may be clunky, but I find the Kasumi to be very svelt and slender. Almost too much so, as it disappears in the hand.

For how pretty and solid they are, Mcustas are great bargains. The Kasumi is a bit over 100 bucks online.

Just picked up one from my local knife pusher. Box says MC-0011D but it does not look like any MC-0011s I have found on other sites. The scales on mine are a dark brown and black wood like material. Beveled both top and bottom. Blade is< I would say, 3/4 damascus and the MCUSTA SEKI-Japan logo is on the upper part of the blade rather than on the lower. Could it be an older model? Thanks for any information you can impart.

I have a katana model with the bamboo handle design. It is smooth and looks very nice! Sharp and just as good as my more expensive CRK. Only dark spot are the sheaths they come with.

I have a Mcusta and 2 Browning 390 Ice Storms. I like the shape of the Mcusta better than the Brownings but the blades are the same. They are the smoothest opening knives I own. I stumbled across the Mcusta as part of a "lot" of knives I bought. I didn't know anything about it and was amazed at the quality. I will own more of them in the future.

The "wood like" handles may well in fact be micarta. Mine are micarta, but with the way it was cut to shape it looks as if it is wood with grain. It does not look anyhting like the micarta on my Persians, Kopa, or Wiele 2. I think that it must be in how they work it. Afterall, micarta is a layered product, like wood in a sense.

dannyvi.....What? You no like FLOWERS on your belt pouch? Gaijin brute!

I took my bamboo Take and ground the ridges DEEPER. It was hard to hold with the smooth metal and being such a heavy knife for its size.

:)
