Anyone own the Dieter CQD FOLDER?

I really like the design, and even the little seat belt cutter. But is that handle as big as it looks? I'm sure the handle would be a benefit in self defense, but it seems that it might be cumbersome for daily knife use. Any thoughts are appreciated.

thanks

I've had one a few months now an I love it! Big knife, certainly. It feels very sturdy in the hand, even with gloves on. You can really knock the hell out of someone with that handle. I carry it at work mostly, prefering a smaller knife for day to day carry, unless I'm feeling spunky

. That webbing cutter comes in real handy de-rigging equipment we jump with, especially water jumps, where sticking a knife in your zodiac is bad. Any knife that has a lifetime guarantee had got to be OK.

Hope this helps

I have had one for a little over a month. It's perfect for me to carry at work but like Java I prefer something a little bit smaller the rest of the time like a Microtech LCC. I think its an excellent knife and would not hesitate to use it hard.

Is the handle as big as it looks? In a word, yes. And in all honesty, it will be a little bit conspicuous clipped to the pocket of your jeans. That having been said, however, it is one of the most solid feeling folders I've ever used. The overbuilt aluminum handles, solid button lock and secondary back-up slide lock inspire confidence in this folder's ability to withstand hard use.

Don't forget that there's also a 3/4 size MOD CQD now being offered. It trades the web cutter for a hardened window breaking spike.

Bronco,

Where'd you find out about the 3/4 size with the spike? I just bought the CQD that Javahed had for sale and it's a beast! I am loving the rock solid lockup and the secondary lock. The blade is nice and sharp and certainly inspires confidence in the user's hand.

The blade was quite stiff to start out with but has loosened up just right. Absolutely no side wobble. A little sticky to get it started opening but with a little nudge it is very easy to flick and snaps open beautifully.

My hands are a bit on the small side so the 3/4 size might actually feel more comfortable and be less conspicuous to carry. I'm finding that the deep leg pocket of carpenter pants hides it well and the handle ridges make it easy to fish out.

Great knife.

The handle if frikkin' HUGE. I've never seen such a large handle on a knife before, especially for the relatively short blade. I recommend handling one before you buy. I have no doubt it's a solid knife, but it's definitely not for everyone.

Javahed,

Nope, she didn't yet so the coast is still clear. In fact, she offered to buy me something "special" for Christmas in the $100 range. Seems she likes the idea of me carrying around a knife that SHE bought me. YES! We want to encourage this sort of thinking

So I'm thinking about the AL Mar Sere 2000 or the Mini Socom. They both seem like they'd be good everyday using knives.

Fountainman,
I think I saw the 3/4 size available in the last Brigade Quartermasters catalog I received. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if Mike and Spike were able to find one for you for less money.
