I know it is not R.W. Wilson.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Kinda looks like a Red Watson knife, but not a logo that I recognize. It is old school. I'll look and see if I have a Red Watson catalog.

I just read through all the names: Nothing in the 1990 or 1998 Knives Annuals.

'Red Watson' is not in either of them, though.

Way before your time Coop ;-) and mine too, but I've had a few of his knives over the years.

Before my time as well, Bobby, but I know a bit:D-

"The Red Watson Memorial Friendship Award was established more than 30 years ago by the Knife Makers Guild’s Board of Directors. Mr. Watson is credited with helping many pursue careers in custom knife making by openly sharing his own techniques and trade secrets. He died in 1973."

Best Regards,

I am looking for my old Knifemakers Guild books, but can only find one of them. Does that look like his logo Steven??

I picked up a Red Watson hunter on A.G.'s 'cutting edge' site earlier this year, but I don't have a picture of it. I gave it to Tony Bose at Blade this year. He is the latest recipient of the award STeven mentions and did not have one of Red's knives. I would almost bet a nice bottle of wine that was his early mark, and was on the hunter. I think he changed his mark a time or two throughout his career. Tony would know. ;)

Nordic has a Red Watson knife with a different logo, but not the one shown above.

Ebay has a tang stamp that matches. Though I am not saying they are an authority.

I started paying attention to Custom Knives in 1998. EVERYTHING before that was before my time. :D N000beee.

Jeez, if somebody posted this knife now, we'd be all drooling and attaboy about it. What a great piece.

Thanks, Jim.

Does that listing name the maker?

"Red Watson 8" overall with 3 1/2' drop point blade. Like new mirror polish - never used or sharpened. Loveless style pins on stag scales. Comes with original leather sheath. Has number "014" on one side and Red Watson mark (R/W with knife in a shield) on other."

the book "Knives & Knifemakers" by Sid Latham (1973) pages 39 and 114 shows knives made by Quinton (Red) Watson with a " shield " mark.

Red Watson died in (april , I believe) 1975.

That is a Red Watson logo. The pics are not very good quality, but that is the same logo.
