Getting a BK-3 this week, and I was thinking about removing the serrations. Anyone have success doing this, and pics???

I do not. I do know you are going to have a helluva time doing it though. The grind profile on that knife and the edge thickness, you will have to remove alot of metal to get thos serrations gone. Any particular reason that you don't want them? I'm not a fan of serrations at all, but I would leave them on that thing if it was mine.

Good luck, brother, and let us know how it goes.

That's a 1/4" thick blade and the serrations are very deep. I think you'd risk serious weakening of the blade if you tried to grind them away.

On the plus side, the serrations are close to the scales, so they don't interfere with the primary functions of the BK3...chopping and prying. :)

BTW, your BK3 is boxed up and should be in your hands by Thursday at the latest...assuming Old Man Winter doesn't drop another load of white stuff this week.

Serrations are not that hard to resharpen, just time consuming. I am not a fan of them either, but agree that i would leave them there. Any good outdoor store will have what you need, or there is always online. I have an entire drybox full af sharpening supplies. My favorite is my Gatco diamond kit with finishing ceramic stone (1200).

Hey Jim H......

This is one mod I would sincerely suggest is going to be a whole lot more trouble than it is worth.....Once you have it in hand I think you will agree.......

You are looking at a whole new blade.....New balance point, new edge geometry.....If you are gonna try this one by hand don't blame me for the sore muscles and the arthritis !!!!!!!.....

Having said that.......It IS your knife.....Let us know what you think.......And if you go ahead please keep us up to date.....Good Luck.......

All Best....

Thanks all! I was just tossing around the idea, and I will follow all your advice and leave things as is. I don't want to ruin an otherwise great knife!

BTW, Ethan, I know others have said this as well, but it is soooo great that you take the time to get to know and chat with the users of your designs! Great to be amonst such a great guy!
