Anyone remember what that full-auto freon-powered bb gun was called?

Airsoft is gaining in popularity, in the US. It's more realistic than paintball. There's plenty of gas-powered airsoft automatics, but electric guns are more reliable. However, gas airsoft guns don't fire with freon gas, I believe. I think the gas they use is pressurized CO2 with added lubricants for the silicone parts in the gun.

of an airgunning magazine (I can't remember the name) has an article of a new full-auto air rifle.

i remember them ,the ahnilator i think, when freon got so high in the early '90's they kinda dissappeared, though some worked w/compressed air too i think. fired 1000 BB's a minute, sounded cool anyway, was cool i bet when freon ran 90 cents a can, but not now, always wanted to play w/one, never got the chance though.....

i'm sure they would still be legal if ya could find one, i havent seen an ad for years, they used to advertise in all the gun mags, and SOF, etc

Your bringing back allot of memories. I had one about 15 or so years ago. I want another for my son when he gets alittle older. I hope someone finds one for sale.

The Annihilator. First saw it advertised in Playboy. Which, BTW, I only read for the articles and advertisements. :D

I'd hate to have to power one nowadays. The restrictions and prices on freon would make that thing unaffordable. Get an airsoft.

Yes, Lars 1, the Glock 18C is adjustable to fully auto. I've heard that thing firing... and it's amazing. Probably less so if you frequently use real firearms, but they're interesting toys nonetheless.

Redwolfairsoft sells direct from Hong Kong, hence their lower prices. But then you might get things confiscated, if you tell them not to putty and paint the barrel orange.

I have a few more days in Hong Kong to run down to airsoft stores. If anyone here is into airsoft, I can help you buy parts and stuff for a minimal cost. Just send me an email (in my profile) or ICQ msg (#10838145).

diletante, SIFU1A, The Annihilator!! I haven't thought of that in years! Back in the mid-seventies a friend of mine and I went in "halvsies" on one and rigged up a regulator on his air compressor to hook it to. We'd load the air compressor up in the back of his truck and haul it down to his pond and practice our aerial gunnery on dragonflys! Shooting it down the middle of the road at night showed a lot of sparks, too!
Great fun!!

Found it! (Thanks Google!) The one I was thinking of was the Larc International M19-A (a/k/a the Annihilator)

I found this:

LARC INTERNATIONAL
P.O. BOX 460
MAITLAND FL 32751

SELLS A FREON-POWERED BB MACHINE GUN! RATE OF FIRE IS 3000 BB'S A MINUTE AT AN EFFECTIVE RANGE OF ABOUT 15 YARDS. USES STANDARD BB'S AND CANNED FREON (AVAILABLE FROM ANY AUTOMOTIVE SUPPLY STORE.) PRICE IS ABOUT 40. THIS GADGET IS DANGEROUS-- IT CAN TAKE OUT A PLATE GLASS WINDOW AND PUT SOMETHING ON SOMEBODY'S ASS HE WON'T FORGET! THIS BB GUN IS DEFINETELY NOT A TOY.

HERE (and several other places). I wonder if they're still in business.

Those bb guns listed above are wild. Almost exact to real models. The one I had when I was a kid was just a Huge hunk of metal with the freon can attaching underneath where a clip would go. Fastest thing I have ever shot. And I have shot allot of weapons in the military. Can you buy those freon cans still??

ya know, i'm not sure if they would work w/the new freon, which isnt so high, or the old R12, thats thru the roof. i would think they would work w/the new stuff, but not sure, and the new freon isnt cheap like R12 used to be in the day, less than .99 a can.

a bud of mine had one(early/mid 80's), and we shot the heck out of it, he lived in the country, and we blasted bugs/pine cones/targets/birds/anything that moved, lol. was a blast, we had it hooked to a air tank, i think it used the R12 pretty fast, we used the air tank unless mobility was required. and talk about BB's, it would use a few of those too, lol. i guess 3000 RPM sounds right, i remember we went thru LLOOTTSS of BB's, darned quick. i think my bud tried w/mixed success using lead shot the right size, since it was cheaper, but i think it jammed some, if i remember right, not a success.

was a lot of fun, and i guess ya could still hook one up to an airtank and shoot for not too much $$, still gotta buy BB'sthough!, let us know how it works if anybody gets one,

It was called the LARC M19-A Annihilator. It fired 3000 BBS a minute.
I went down to Florida in 1975 or 1976, and bought one of the very first ones from the designer.
I believe he was in or near Coral Gables Florida?
I was about 19 at the time, and I was so eager to use it!!
I bought a cheap, 3 x 9 rifle scope, and mounted it on top of the carry handle- not to use as an actual scope.
just because it made it look cooler- the designer had also given me, for free, a prototype "flash suppressor"
he'd been playing with. I also attached a rifle sling to the bottom.
I was in Florida for another week, and I was pretty bored, (excuse) so, I went down by the pool,
( found out the LARC fit nicely in my briefcase with the barrel off.)
ANYWAY, the back area of the pool faced a nasty, trash-filled drainage canal, full of old bottles, cans, and floating crap. Perfect targets!!!
I attached the barrel, and started spraying bottles with short bursts- it broke them up like nobody's business!!!
Then I started on all the cans...
...MEANWHILE, unknown to me, all the people behind me in the pool area decided to leave (didn't notice)
and they went to the hotel desk, and told the guy
"There's a guy in a suit down by the pool with a machine gun"
- so, next thing I know, I'm blasting away, I look over casually to my left, and there's a guy
just BARELY PEEKING out a side door. I shoot some more- I look over, he's still there-
I say," Hey, what's up?" and shoot some more.
He says, "so , whatcha doin'?"
I say, "breaking some bottles- wanna try?"
THAT'S WHEN the POLICE DETECTIVE comes over,
tries the gun, and says
"THIS? IS A BB GUN?"
( I never knew how close I came to being shot...)
- On that same trip to Florida, I also bought one of those spring- loaded SPEZNATZ bayonets,
with the 80 pound spring in the handle, and the trigger with the grenade pin safety...
It was a great trip...

I don't know if you can buy the freon cans, but I know you can hook the gun up to an air compressor-
when I went to the designer's "factory" , he had a prototype hooked up to a huge air compressor, and he let me saw some wood with it
( BB bounce back stings like a BITCH!!!)
