anyone like using a lanyard on 6"+ blades?? seems like most pics are without..

I did before I like using a slip knot paracord bead with a split tail lanyard

Here's one I did. Made the Beads out of some whitetail Antlers I had laying about. The bottom bead slides down to the knots so you can hook your thumb into while chopping.

Nope. Only time I've dropped, well, anything really I suppose, is when I'm trying to adjust my grip. Whether it's a pint glass or a maul. I don't recall it ever happening while using it. I guess I'd rather not be tethered to a sharp object should I somehow lose grip of it mid-swing.

Also, it's just more crap swinging around while sheathed, either trying to hit my tender bits or trying to snag itself on any bramble I may brush past.

Lanyards always bother me too. But, i keep one near by (or on/in sheath) just in case i'm working around deep water or something nasty haha

Ya that's why I asked, I just can't get into them.. makes me feel like I should be part of a tribe or something. Luckly the Ash is pretty easy to hang on to..

I think they look cool but for me they just get in the way when switching from a forward to reverse grip.

Yes but only for the looks, a short one so i can have my copper zombie bead on it :)

For me most lanyards I put on a fixed blade are for looks or to carry a ferro rod. On a folder I use one to help draw the knife. Once I have gotten used to using them on folders I find it very hard to go without one. If I am going to be around water I will put one on whatever knife I am using long enough to fit over my wrist.

That's a good idea.

I like them on smaller knives that have a 3 finger grip. Gives my pinky something to hold onto.

It would be nice if the Busse beads came in different finishes. Copper, and a pewter or silverish look would be good. I'm using a hog bead, but would like it much better in a different finish.

I wish I was as talented with my paracord as a lot of you. Some very nice looking lanyards. Youtube has gotten me through making mine, but I retained maybe 10% of the methods. lol

Good point. I'd like to add lanyards on some applications where it can assist with the draw. Mainly on folders.

Have them on all my fixed blades, the TGLB is missing a lanyard because I cut it off to switch colors. I like them on my skinning knives so when I'm dressing out game I can have both hands and retain the knife. I like it on my choppers so if I'm clearing hunting trails or shooting lanes I can have both hands to tie trail markers then go back to chopping. I have never flung a knife away while chopping it I guess it could be a safety measure like others have mentioned. I always use a simple loop. Nothing fancy

I use them on all my knives except those used indoors in the kitchen. Why? because I can quickly drop the knife to grab or catch something, or to have hands free to climb without having to take time to lay down, drop, or even lose my knife, and can quickly retrieve my knife back into my hand with a flip of the wrist. If you've ever carried a knife for use on a boat, while rock climbing or in rough terrain, or hiking in bear country, you'll know what I mean.
