Hey just a quick question out of curiosity. Does anyone carry their sebenza without lube? Thanks!

I have not, but had considered it during the summer months on the farm when my knives get so exposed to dirt and dust. Interested in peoples responses!

One thing to point out is that unless you're going to clean it with something that will remove all grease (brake or carb cleaner), you going to have residual left that will attract dirt/dust anyway. To my experience, yes grease attracts dirt and grime, but the lube protects from surface wear. I can tell you from past experiences, there is nothing worse than a neglected dried up bearing.

I am not sure why you would...
Based on that, the answer for me is no:) Every so often (not on really a set timeframe) I will sit down and lube up all my knives so they aren't running dry.

I did for a while when I was in Iraq. The dust is so fine over there it gets into EVERYTHING.

I have not on my Seb. When mine gets dry, it makes a scratchy sound. I am not too comfortable with that. Does yours make that sound? Are you ok with it? If so, then do a dry run.

But, on other knives I have when I was going to be working a nasty area. But, I clean them when done, and put some Reel Butter on them. Even my cheap knives get the Butter. I keep that lube for my fishing gear. I find that knives love it. Sometimes I use Rem Oil. Depends on what is closest to me at the time.

Real butter :)

If I were to put real butter in my knives.....

Mine worked allright without any lube (a well broken in large classic). I just kept it clean. Now I don't use it in a dirty environment so often so I use fluorinated grease every couple of months.

Not exactly. I use Frog Lube on my folders. You apply just a little on all the contact points, heat it up with a hair dryer, let the parts cool, then wipe it dry. Assemble parts. Pretty amazing stuff, imo.

I never thought to try that on my knives. I did start using Ren Wax as a lube, it worked great too.

Mineral oil is too light for a sebenza. It defeats the design purpose of the holey washers :)

I've been known to let mine go awhile between cleanings, but the feeling of a freshly cleaned and greased Seb is a nice thing so in other words, lube all the way for me.

When mine gets gritty, I'll service them. I didn't like the grease supplied by CRK as its too light and runny so I use SKF blue bearing lube. Anyway sebby's are the easiest to dismantle/assemble imo.

I just cleaned my Seb and didn't put any lube on it. I'll use it today and report back! So far it is a little stiffer to open, but I don't sense any grittiness really, it's still smooth.

My 2 cents...I find the new perforated washers work great with finish line extreme flouro grease. The older non perforated washers (on my regulars) do not like it as much and I run them very close to dry with just a small amount of fishing reel oil.
