At the flea mrkt I seen a small hawk head that had a German eagle on it and some other markings. It was no bigger than 5"long with about a 2" bit.The poll was a small hammer. It looked old to me but knowing nothing about it I passed. The guy wanted $35 for it and wouldn't take any less.I wish I would have bought it...Mike

No,I wish I would have.A guy had some S&W grips I was wanting and never found him. That's the way it goes. You gotta grab that stuff when you see it...Mike

I think tomahawks are a very American thing and as tools they hardly ever existed in Europe. If it was German maybe it was made for export to the US. Was it old?

It didn't look like some new fake, had a older look to it.Had a German company name on it.No swaztica. The guy who had it seemed to know a lot about antiqies. He said he did a search and could not find anything about the company. The butt of it looked like a small mushroom with a stem and a round flat hammer, like a tac hammer....Mike

It sounds from your description like it wasn't actually a tomahawk then, or not intentionally so anyway, but perhaps some small axe/hammer type tool? There are carpenters tools, small fireman axes and so on that look like tomahawks, even if they are not, if you know what I mean?

I think you are right,it looked like it was made for some specific purpose.I have never seen a hawk that small or with that kind of poll.If I ever see it again and have the money I will get it just to try and find out what purpose it was made for....Mike
