I'm wondering if anyone here owns, has seen or heard of a laminated tomahawk? I've seen some awesome knives made with laminated steels (carbon steel laminated inside stainless steels). I'm really wondering what this would look like made into a hawk. Anyone seen this before?
Thanks,
Mike

Do you mean patternwelded 'hawks in general, or stainless damascus in particular? Either way, yep, seen a number by different makers. Can't tell you a single name for one, though. :( There have been several patternwelded axes posted on Don Fogg's forum the last year at least.

If you mean that the body of the hawk is made of soft mild steel with a piece hard steel inserted to form the edge, then this is a method that was commonplace and is still used on higher end axes and tomahawks.

Thanks for the info guys!

Cold Creek: Those are some beautiful hawks!!!!! Did you make them?

How about any stainless laminated hawks. Anyone ever see any of those?

Mike,

I'll dare to speak to your question. I'm quite certain that Stephen (Cold Creek Forge) made those hawks. He is a craftsman of the first class. I'd strongly recommend him if you're interested. He will do the job and VERY well.

God bless,
Adam

Steve does great work! I love my Bear Claw hawk I got from him. I have three of Steves hawks. This one does not get thrown though. It sits next to the bed.
One of my tools for things that go bump in the night;).
As an aside Steve, I love that hawk without the handle! It is just my style. I love the way that the damascus layers run the lenght along the side. AWESOME!!
