Anyone seen the Exorcist?

I have low expectations from what I hear. I guess they turned it into an action-horror movie more than a drama-horror movie. The other two sequels were awful, so I expect no less from this. I'll probably go to see it, but I won't expect too much.

I remember that there were rumors with the first version that they had used some sort of subliminal messages or imagery to enhance the scare factor.

Never heard much to confirm or deny.

Then I'll do it for you ;)

The "subliminal messages" weren't meant to be subliminal really. There was one flash of a priestly gentlemen and the other was Captain Howdy, the demon itself. The flashing of these made it scarier, and the Howdy image was even used in this sequel's trailer. During the movie, there were hidding shadows and things made to look like the demon, but nothing subliminal. There were many deaths around the set, though

I didn't think Legion was really all that bad. The book was pretty good. I've heard that it wasn't supposed to actually be an Exorcist sequel, but Hollywood had its way with it and they cobbled it into the franchise.

Now, Exorcist 2: the Heretic... That was an irredeemable piece of excrement. :barf:

Now how would you go about redeeming excrement, and who on earth would want to? :)

Well... the Democrats are trying to pawn the Kerry/Edwards Ticket off on us aren't they?

Well, I probably should have used these Thesaurus-ly related terms: unsalvageable, unmitigable, shriftless, ruined, remediless, past hope, past praying for, irreparable, beyond remedy, and graceless. :D

That's not good enough. Too close to Kampfjaeger's democrats and Kerry explanation. Sounds as if you've just elaborated Kampfjaeger's reply.

it wasnt a blockbuster to be exact but it deffinetly wasnt the worst thing out there. if nothing elce it was a semi decent horror movie. go see avp first but deffinetly go see it.

I just got back from the theatre. I enjoyed the movie, and I thought that it was very underrated, there was a good plot, nice action, but unfortunately I found dialogue to be lacking. A lot of people didn't like the exorcism itself, it was different but I would not say it was bad. In fact, it was very entertaining. Sure, nothing will recapture the original Exorcist's creepy moments (Reagan's head spinning, pea soup, spider walk), but this film comes very close.

My two problems were that A) There seemed to be too much CGI, and a lot of it was too obvious. B) It relied a little too heavily on "jump-out-from-the-corner with loud musical eccentuation" scares. Other than that, I would definitely give this film a watching, but for some reason I wouldn't want to watch it for another 10 years, possibly because the film can be slow at times. Compare that to a movie like Pulp Fiction, which I could watch once a month.

Wait til it's on DVD and check it out, I hate movie theatres. Well, I hate movie-goers ;) Yes, we all see that your cellphone is illuminated, now stop screwing around with it and watch the movie  No, you're not impressing me by saying "that didn't scare me", and don't clap at the end of the movie, it's a PROJECTION not a stage. :barf:
