I have a Kimber Pro TLERLII External extractor. I have tried different types of ammo different magazines, the extractor is perfect aside from holster wear, the recoil and firing pin springs are new wolf extra power ones, the gun has almost 1000 rounds on it After 500 or 600 is when the malfunctions started.

Havnt checked extractor spring, its origional, I also tried several different types of ammo, including several types of 230gr ball both before and after extractor springs.

Check the extractor spring they can get week. Make sure the extractor isn't bent slightly. Contact Kimber. Check the 1911 forums. Kimber has had this problem in the past. Good luck.

Has something to do with recoil spring... I use Kimber factory springs and replace them every 6-800 rounds. If its a carry piece I would use factory. Second pic looks like a feed ramp issue. Make sure its clean and polished. However, I have never owned an external extractor 1911, so it could just be the damn extractor...

My guess is too much recoil spring and/or not enough grip on the gun. It looks like the slide is not going fully to the rear.

Does it have a recoil buffer in it? Those things can get chewed up and cause problems with slide travel too.

No recoil buffer, everything is 100% stock except stiffer recoil and fp springs, it is going back to Kimber tomorrow

This problem with Kimber external extractors has been so well-documented that Kimber has changed back to original internal extractor slides. Kimber can't even explain all the problems they've had with the design.

Contact Kimber Service directly and explain to them your problem, they will replace your original slide with a new internal extractor slide. If they want you to pay for shipping, give them a hard time and they will drop any request for you to pay fees associated with return/swap/

I only can reiterate what CWL suggested. During my trading, shooting and competing this has been the biggest problem with having the Kimber. I've known several individuals that finally gave up and went to another manufactures 45.

This says it better than I could. Yeah, it's a known issue. Call kimber; they need to be aware of this and deal with it.

I have tried 3 different types of mags, standard kimber, kimber top end stainless, and Wilson combat etm mags

I have a S&W 1911 and had a similar problem. What fixed it was a stiffer recoil spring. YMMV.

Regards.

I remember one of my dads doing that when he was playing with the slide spring tensions. So my guess would be that your slide spring has weakened.

I had and have a brand new wolff extra power recoil spring in it, and putting the new spring in didn't help

I've never fired a Kimber, but the failure's I've seen like that have amounted to having too strong a recoil spring for the load being fired. The first one looks like the slide returned quickly enough to snag the empty before it was clear (weak ejection), the live round stovepipe generally means the slide didn't travel back enough to clear the rim and picked up on the extraction groove instead. I run a Wolff 22# recoil spring on my old ParaOrdanance/Colt, but I always ran pretty stiff loads. It would drop the empties in a 3# coffee can by my right foot nine times out of ten.

The problem is its a kimber.;) as said its the external extractor. Kimber scrapped the idea after failures flooded them. Ironically s&w took up the external ext on their 1911. Seems they figured it out, since they still use the setup. Best fix is buy an ed brown and call it a day.
