Anyone Sharpen Their Tip?

I finally got a Ganzaa Kill Devil Hawk. I missed out on the original Ganzaa due to an illness, so I wasn't able to get a few KDHs, but a great guy sold me a new one for a great price recently.

The edge came dull, unfortunately, so I have been slowly convexing it using the mousepad sandpaper method. The one thing I don't like about SR-101 is how long it takes to sharpen!! I do miss SR-77 a bit, but I think 101 was the right choice for the KDH. Anyways, this is not what this thread is about.

After I threw the KDH and destroyed some old plastic and wooden chairs, I noticed that once the coating was stripped off of the point, it was almost sharpened.

I used the sandpaper and mousepad method, and now it is sharper than the factory edge on the other side!

Has anyone else sharpened their tip?

Haven't felt the need to sharpen, penetrates like crazy, the way it is.

That it does. I'm thinking ahead for when the zombies come in 8 days. I need to practice my aim.

Seriously though, this thing is even better than I had dreamed. It is a demolition machine. I'm running out of things that I can find to destroy. I need to move out of the city and get an old junker car to gut.

I don't know how much deeper mine will penetrate with a sharper tip, but I wasn't getting anywhere with the edge, so I decided to give it a go.

Meh, you still have coating on the bevel! Amateur!!! :p

Mine has no coating left anywhere on the primary spike bevel, and you are correct, once that coating is gone it is fairly sharp from the factory. I did not grind any more off of mine, however, I did polish it up with some green compound on a leather belt and it seems to bite even better now.

The KDSH is a demolition monster!!! I never expected that spike to be SO useful! I LOVE how you can sink it into something with all your might, then pry the handle sideways and the spike just tears whatever it is stuck into apart! :D This has become one of my most used/useful Bussekin!!!

I sharpened a tip of a hawk once, it cut me a bunch :)

Id like to do the opposite and flatten the spike into a small hammer poll. I may have to figure out how to heat sink the edge so i could do a little smithin on the other end.

These things are monsters. The rats left a few laying around so I took one to play with. Lots of fun and they throw really well too.

I just got the damn thing! The more I sharpen it, the more coating I've taken off.

Agreed on all counts. I believe I have a picture of a chair I destroyed that I found near the dumpster.

Just the tip?
Yeah... I just had to see how it felt. The pointier it is, the more penetration I get.

ETA: I found one picture. Too bad I don't have one of the pile of plastic that once was a chair. This was taken after two good whacks:

They are a lot of fun, and throwing them is a blast!! Was that you in the video? If so. You've got good aim.

David: watch out for sharp things :p. I'm sure you have a ton in your office.

I had the belt sander out over the weekend, and re-sharpened the whole primary bevel of the spike. It gleams now, and is VERY sharp. :D Made the pointy end of my Rattle Hawk even pointier too.

I went over mine with a stone when I was touching up the main edge, I didnt want to make it very sharp just took away the blunt edge, thing sticks like a dart now when thrown.
