Anyone shave with their knife?

Hi there,

I've been toying with the idea of getting a neck knife and using it to replace my razor in the morning when at camp. The knife would also be used for normal camp chores for the rest of the day. Don't worry, I'll alcohol the heck out of it between uses.

I wondering: do any of ya'll use your knife to shave? If so, what do you use?
Pics would be awesome!

Best,
Brass

I noticed I missed small a patch under my nose the other day and I was able to use my Mnandi to shave it off. I don't know if I'd want to shave my whole face with a knife though.

blade profile for camp use are generally on the thicker size compared to razors. so if you were able to reprofile an edge to get the thin edge required to shave thicker facial hair i would assume ur edge would not be suited for camp chores such as battoning, possibly chopping and carving. this is my purely novice opinion. i could be completely wrong however. feel free to prove me wrong haha!

My knife will get sharp enough to take leg and arm hair off but wont shave my face! Something is wrong....

I've used a SAK Classic for similar touch-ups. I don't think I'd ever want to do my whole face, either, though!

Here's the blade..

Maybe a overkill for shaving face.

I'm planning exactly the same thing in the OP.

I have shaved with a my vic farmer before, its literally full flat ground though I took off the bevel and stropped the hell out of it works great!

Man this sounds cool as hell but as i have gotten older--my hands shake a little--i am afraid i would be one sad sight when i am done--LOL--:D

I shave my whole face with it... but the edge needs to be reprofiled thinner than typical knife use. And you wouldn't want to ruin the razor sharp edge that took you a while to put on by using the knife for EDC tasks.

If you can get the knife sharp enough (about .5 microns) it will work but the thickness of a standard knife is what causes the problem, straight razor's are thin for a reason.

I've shaved with a few thin flat ground knives but not my whole face. You will Be surprised how sharp you need to get you knife for it to work properly. Knives are also a bad idea because they curve, makes it easy to cut yourself.

i know that feeling

though i did once get my opinel sharp enough to do a whole face shave. had to go over about 3 times and it was NOT comfortable

I've shaved with a case small sodbuster. Had to polish the edge on a ultra fine spyderco stone though, and use it for other EDC type tasks would take off that face shaving edge. I imagine camp tasks would do that even quicker.

I spent more than enough time in the woods shaving with my carbon puukko. There's still reason why Gilette is so popular ^^ Its so much faster ^^ but I have my soligen straight razor too, when I don't have rush or when I am not growing beard (like now)

I shaved my face with my BR Bravo necker just to see if I could. It's a full convex blade and I swear it shaves smoother than my Gilette Mach III !!

It was a little scary getting the corners around my nose, and I think that if my wife had seen me shaving my throat she would have killed me!

It's nice to know that it works though. :D

i normally do my cheeks above my beard no problem, but my neck below the beard is tough. I did get my opinel sharp enough to do the neck the other day, it was the most painful shave i've ever had, however i think if i had a v grind on the edge instead of convex it probably would have been better.

A blade that would preform camp tasks and shave are two different animals.
But that is just me.

A man of wilderness or in bush should conserve the water, soap and blade sharpness... So why bother shaving in the woods unless you have good reason (like your friends almost shooting you for mistaken your for a bear :D)

A shaving is invention of civilized man, the good thing in bushes is that you really don't need to act that civilized there. Camp fire, good knife, six-pack, star bright sky and smell of meat roasting on the fire, what else man needs?
