Not that many years ago, when I was still collecting old Winchesters and Colts, I had guns coming out of the woodwork. Everywhere... I had two large safes that were stuffed full, guns in drawers, guns under the beds, guns in the closets, and guns at family members houses... :o

After years of hitting guns shows almost every weekend, pawn shops almost daily, and scouring the newspapers every morning, I burned out.
It just hit me one day. I had become so absorbed by this, I lost interest. So... I went through everything, decided which ones I was keeping, and sold the rest over time. It wasn't a big deal at the time, because I had started archery hunting, so that took away even more of shock.
Looking back now, I wish I would have kept a few more, but that's the way it goes.

My best friend and I have have an upcoming hunt in Alaska in September. Being out of the gun loop for awhile, I decided I might get a new 338 win mag for the trip. I am taking my bow with me though. I only live a few miles from the Nosler factory, and knew they were making their own line of rifles, so on the way to work the other day, I stopped to check them out.

They have a few different models staring at $1695 and go up to over $4,000. I am looking at the base model, the Patriot in 338 win mag.
The only problem is, that version won't be being made in 338 until the third quarter, so that may be cutting it a little close. They do have the wood stocked version which is $200 more, but they have three in stock. As much as I love wood, I was really leaning towards a synthetic stock.

The full custom orders can be done a lot quicker, but they are also a lot more $$$. So, anyone here own a Nosler rifle ? If so, feel free to give your thoughts, as well as posting some pictures.

For those that haven't seen them, here is a link. It states IN STOCK on each model, but that has not been updated.

Don't own one but they are on the list once I win the lottery. For that money you could pick up a custom from Hill Country Rifles that you know will shoot as everyone is shot in before you take possession. Just a thought.

On a separate nite my 338 win is an old savage 116 with the muzzle break and removable box mag. Love it and had HCR accurate it. Great rifle.

Ya, there are some very good semi-custom rifles made, in the same price range. The thing I like about the Noslers is that they are a local company.

I'm not really looking for an increase in accuracy over production rifles. I have owned a couple that would shoot 1 inch or under easily, with factory ammo.
The most accurate 338 I have ever owned is a Winchester Super Grade. I never bothered working up loads for it, because it would shoot under 3/4 inch groups shooting Federal Premium with Winchester Fail Safes. I still have a target using that load. It has 8 rounds into slightly under 3/4 inch at 100 yards, without any cleaning, or cooling between rounds.

Savage makes some very good rifles. I hadn't looked at any of the recent production rifles, but while I was at one of the local Mart stores, I looked at a stainless/synthetic rifle. I really couldn't find anything about the rifle I didn't like, and they were still very reasonably priced.
