There are some classics I like and are difficult or unavailable locally (the original Les Miserables with Anthony Perkins, Day of The Jackel, etc.) and I was toying with the idea of subscribing to Netflix(?).

Thanks.

I had it for a while and really loved it (I cancelled it when I got rid of the TV so I'd spend more time in the shop). The website is pretty easy to use and the turnaround when you send discs back is remarkably fast. The only caveat that I found is that you need a decent DVD player that can cope with less-than-pristine media. I never got a disc that was badly scratched but many of them were pretty scuffed up. Other than that, it's a brilliant concept, and I enjoyed using it. I say go for it.

I also had it. The problem was that a few DVDs got lost in the mail. I mainly got it for Helen. She didn't keep up order the amount that we were paying for monthly. It beats going to the store. :D

We have it and love it. We watch lots of independent films (the annual Waterfront Film Festival here in Saugatuck every year spoils the heck out of us) and tons of documentaries, so the selection is a lot better than the video stores. Turnaround time is fast for us, and discs always play fine for us. It's nice, too, because you can put stuff on your hold list that is still in theatres, so when it becomes available on DVD you're already on the list. For us, it's money well spent, but we watch tons of movies and stuff, so it's been great.

We were out with a group of friends and after a few rounds started talking about how much $$$ could be made in doing a Netflix service, but for porn instead of regular movies. We were all fired up about it, and were going to name the service "NetCl$%s" (part of the female anatomy that rhymes with flix, more or less). But, when we got home we found that many, many entrepreneurs had beat us to the punch. :(

Anyway, it's great. Evidently, for the first year, the Blockbuster copy of this service is a few bucks cheaper per month, but then it jumps up quite a bit afterward.

We've been doing 3-4 month Netflix gift certificates for gifts lately and people really love it.

exclusively now; no more video store. The problem some people have with it is they are not old enough to know what to order. This sounds strange but for netflix to really work, you have to already have a good knowledge of film and film history, it not a great place to just "shop". Once you've got a cue started, you can edit it whenever you like and change things around to suit yourself. I think is is a great service. They don't bitch about a lost cd or two either. Ditto ones ariving broken.

tonight we're watching "Kelly's Heros" :)

That sounds good to me and since I am an old fart I can still remember some of the one's not usually available locally. I thank all you guys for the advise and it seems to have turned thumbs up all around. I will order a VDR and subscribe. If I decide better later on it ain't no big deal. I must say I do like being able to find flixs not available in the store (usually the ones I like most).

My wife told me yesterday that they just opened a new plan. You can do the $17 one which gives you three discs at any given time, or you can do a $12 which gives you two discs at once, if you watch fewer movies.
