Just got a Leatherman Surge for Christmas! Good stuff. Anyway, I don't like the fact that I don't have the small bit holder on it, so was wondering if/how one would go about getting another small bit holder to switch out w/ say the awl? Gonna call Leatherman tomorrow but not holding out much hope!

Congratulations on getting the new tool. There is at least one seller on the big auction site that has some Leatherman parts for sale most of the time, so you might check there for what you want. I may be senile, but I'm pretty sure my Surge has the small bit holder.

Edit to add: yep, I'm senile. I must have been thinking of my old Charge XTI. My Surge doesn't have the small bit holder. Given the size of the tool, that's probably a good thing. I chew up enough tiny screws without that much torque assistance.

Thanks for the response bud. I can't find any parts for sale right now, so maybe he doesn't have any listed. I'm thinking about trying to switch out the small bit holder from my son's wave and see if it works, if so I will try to just buy one and switch it out maybe.

No, you are not senile (yet.) There have been two versions of Surge, the first equipped with small bit holder. You probably had that one. Current Surges have a fixed small driver in its place, redesigned pliers head with replaceable wire cutters and universal saw blade adapter.

That's good to know! So I just need to find an older model surge and switch them out probably...

Thanks, but my only Surge is the newer version that doesn't have the small bit holder. I just got it mixed up in my mind with another tool.

You might try searching for custom Leatherman tools, then contact the seller about parts. The last time I looked, the seller I'm thinking of had some Damascus blades up for sale, but no other parts listed.

You've got nothing to lose by calling Leatherman and asking. I did about 25 years ago and got a call back from Tim Leatherman himself. I told him what I wanted to do to my Supertool, Mini-tool, and Micra, and he sent me the parts in the mail. The company was a bit smaller then, but even so, their customer service department might surprise you.

+1 on their great C.Service
I've been very pleased with it and swapped my Surge's worn out blade for a Tim's signed one

I like how people "think" that you just "can't cut a tree or limb unless the blade is longer than the diameter of the wood involved.:-) When you ask such people why they can't just go around the circumference of the wood, cutting as they go, they just say "duh". Also wonder why a camper type would have any need of timber larger than 6" in OD, anyway,
