All it says is "made by R.W. Loveless" and comes with an orange and white Gerber box.
Anyone have an idea on blade steel used at time this was made?
C'mon you Gerber experts.....

I wish I knew, but I don't.

I recall someone mentioning that the steal used was dependent upon when it was made. O1, A2, and 440C have been mentioned (IF I recall correctly, always in debate).

I'd like to see a run-down of the steel used, as the Guardian is a favorite of mine (though not LEOs).

If that is correct, any of those steels are fine. I just wanted to confirm that they did not use the 420 type steel they alledgedly use now.

My Gerber Guardian II, about 20 years old, has a 440C blade according to my memory. The blades are unfortunately not stamped, but the box was. At the time, I thought that was pretty premium steel and it was one of the reasons I purchased it. :)

Guardian II was the large MkII size knife, there was also a Mk1 which are very rare.
Pretty sure they were all 440C.

I have one too! Nice dagger but luckily i have no use for it.

Steel? It should be that "famous" in house Gerber stainless.

As best I can tell, the pre-Fiskars Command/Mark/Guardian series Gerbers from the 80s and early 90's were all 440C.

Earlier MKII's were made from L6 but those predated the Guardian and Command series.
