I've read a lot of negative commentary about the Smatchet (somewhat surprising based on its history) and was wondering if anyone from the pro-Smatchet camp uses one in self defense training and/or skills practice. I'm referring to the mini Smatchet specifically, as the larger Smatchet is impractical based on its size. The mini Smatchet is perfectly balanced, offers exceptional slashing capacity, and compares favorably with most combat folders in the size/weight dept. It's proven to be an excellent compliment to training with my Emerson Commander. Unfortunately, as it has a double edge, it is classified as a dagger in my state, and cannot be legally carried as a defensive tool. Since the minis are getting very difficult to find for sale, I'm also curious to hear from owners if most have been taken out of action and relegated to safe queen/collectible status.
