The CZ line of pistols looks pretty good to me at this point, and from what I've read it seems like a good deal, accurate, reliable and fairly cheap.

Problem is no range around here rents them so if I buy it I'm flying blind, looking for any opinions, good or bad. Thanks guys.

I have a CZ-75b that has been great - very accurate, fits my hand better than my glock did, nice trigger.. Definately worth the $300 I spent.

I've owned two of them.

The first was a real-deal baked finish CZ-75 that was brought in from Canada when the embargo was still on. I remember the import tax as being very steep. It was the complete box; two magazines, manual and proof targets. I never touched the pistol; it was traded to Terry Tussey because he wanted to build himself a personal gun out of something unusual.

The second gun was a little beauty, a CZ-83. It had 13-shot mags in those days, and the little thing shot half dollar size groups all day. My first experience was shooting in a driving rain. I had gotten caught, and I was soaked already. I popped the little gun out, and chased a can across the ground. Tremendous gun. I foolishly traded it for another gun I don't remember; truly seller's remorse.

Off-topic, but is the producer the same manufacturing firm that produced the CZ motorcycles? The "Chay-Zed" was a tough, reliable motocrosser back in the infancy of the sport over here, known for it's bulletproof transmission. (Clutch...We don need no steeeenking clutch!)

I also had a CZ-75. It was a good pistol, with good ergonomics, but the 9mm caliber sucks, IMO. I now carry Glocks in .40 and 10mm.

I regularily shoot a CZ75 at IPSC matches and I have only good thing to say about this fine gun.

Its strong point is ergonomics. It has a handle that fits the hand very well, and it is very easy to find the correct grip when drawing the gun from the holster. People that like the Hi-Power, will find the CZ even better in the hand.

Another strong point: it can be used in Production Class as double-action, or it can be cocked-and-locked and used in the Standard Class.

Most of the folks at the gun boards seem to like them a lot. Try searching at thehighroad.org or the archives at the now-defunct thefiringline.org (or .com?). There's also a CZ specific forum but I don't know the site off the top of my head.

My apologies to the moderators if posting other forums (forae?) here is taboo.

I bought some CZ-75 magazines before the ban was in place in California. I still have to buy the pistol though. I'd like to get the military model if I can find one.

I've shot the CZ-75 (and it's clones) in 9mm, .40cal, and .45cal. My wife's .45 is the TZ-75 (a CZ-75 clone from Tanfoglio). My best friend has the full size and compact Desert Eagle clones in .45 and they're great. To my knowledge there are no negatives about the design of this gun and there are very few negatives about the various clones. The ergonomics and accuracy are outstanding and the price is great since the guns are under appreciated. Matter of fact, I don't know why I don't have one of the CZs in the "classic" 9mm!:D

Not only is it not taboo, it is practically encouraged. That's how you get to be the center of the internet instead of some provincial, self-linking backwater.

BTW I think the proper Latin is "fora" (neuter plural). "Forae" would be the plural of a feminine noun would it not?

a bud has one of the tanofaglio (sp?) clones in 10MM, a big, heavy duty pistol, not real expensive, have been thinking of getting one. heavy though, too heavy for edc really........

I really like my CZ75B. I've even got my GF shooting it now.

Tooking it camping, and a friend just fell in love with it. He bought one the very next day after we got back.

I think they're great, irregardless of price.

Mike

P.S. When I went in search of a 9mm, EVERYONE said the FN / Browning Hi-Power was the best, but the CZ was nearly as good at 1/2 the price.
