Anyone tried tagua for knife handles?

the only problem i see is the cracks. not only are they going to keep you from getting really large cuts, i would be worried about micro cracks. besides, it even says that they are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. IMO, that would not be that easy to use. if you are going for cheap, go to a coastal farm or tractor supply store and get stall mat. it is tough, shock absorbent, and generally awesome. 4 square feet of 3/8ths inch thickness is $10, or at least it was for me.

@Ilovetoolsteel: Thanks!

@thegeek574: Interesting; I'll have to have a look at it (stall mat).

Part of the appeal of tagua is that it is an ivory-like material, which should be very nice. So the idea is to get "luxury feel" for a low price. To cover larger areas, I was thinking of trying to glue together smaller pieces, but yeah, the cracks will be a pain to work around.

Thanks for the comments.

Masecraft Supply has a synthetic ivory that looks really good. It's brittle, though.
