Anyone tried the Ken Onion Blade Grinding Attachment for WorkSharp?

I got one... I don't do videos, but I can tell you it works well. No issues being left handed... there's clearance on both sides.

Worth it in my opinion, a great way to get a variable speed belt sharpener, (which brings some advantages), in a more compact package and lower cost than some of the alternatives. Their approach to setting the angle works well also.

I've done a variety of knife styles and haven't run across any issues... and have also made some minor tip repairs on the platen side that worked well.

Hope that helps.

i am also lefthanded :) isnt it a little inconvenient when you want to start the motor using you right hand - and hold the knife with the left?

The sharpener has a lock button for the power switch so, with the Blade Grinding Attachment, I just turn it on, lock the switch, and do the sharpening.

I also noticed that there appears to be a threaded hole in the bottom of the WSKO to allow it to be attached to a work surface. Nice.

Is the KO edition really worth twice the price of the original tho? I mean, for a noob (like myself),would one greatly benefit from the extra features? Thanks in advance :)

I watched a video ( don't remember where) and they said the hole was the size for a tripod. So you can take your sharpener with you.

I'm getting a Ken Onion WorkSharp. I see they have what is basically a freehand attachment.
...
Has anyone tried it yet?
If it's of any use I have a review of it in Post #2 (link) of -

Review - Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener - Ken Onion Edition

It's not really pure freehand - but kind of a guided freehand -
in that the belt incline angle can be adjusted - and one only has to hold the blade horizontally to get that angle -
there is a horizontal reference plate - just lift up from that and maintain the horizontal.

It is quite easy and intuitive - after a few runs I found it as easy as keeping a blade vertical (like when using crock-sticks V-hones)
the huge advantage is one can see the blade edge and grinding.....

I also used it for quite an extensive modification/grinding to fix and re-grind a knife in post #19 (link)

Hope that helps.

I think it's a quantum leap forward. I think if you got the original you'd eventually end up getting the KO Edition eventually.

That was a great write up. Thank you very much.

Thank you for your kind words.

I should mention that for sharpening - it should not make any difference being right- or left-handed.

Since the knife is in one hand to grind/sharpen one side,
then the blade is flipped over, to sharpen the other side
and has to be held in the other hand.

So for sharpening - the knife is held 50%-50% in each hand

Where can I get the blade grinding attachment? Seems it's only available from worksharp.

It's early days -
either not released or in very short supply -
or might even be produced on demand -

So I would imagine not quite generally available yet -
that's probably why it's only available from Work Sharp itself -
but at least it is available.

General availability may depend on demand/popularity.
