Has anyone tried the M3 metal composite scale materials yet? I bought a couple of sets from the manufacturer and they just arrived today. (they are also available through one of our favorite knife making supply houses as well)

I was really surprised - I was expecting a metallic feel to them. But they feel more like a very dense, fine-grained fiberboard. I took my pocket knife to the edge to see how it carved, and it seemed pretty chalky and chippy. I examined the pieces under a 10x loupe and they appeared to have a lot of small pinhole voids in the composite material. But they also have an interesting shimmer due to the small metallic particles floating in the matrix.

I love trying out new stuff - but the jury's still out for me. I'm going to have to get these on the bench and see how they perform and how they finish out. Anyone else use this material and have comments or suggestions?
