I just noticed that peak makes a 3 LED AAA light. Has anyone tried it?. Is it waterproof or just water resistant?. How bright is it compared to the Arc AAA light?. Is the quality the same as Arcs?. Thanks in advance.
quite a bit brighter than the ARCS I have, waterproof? Probably, haven't tested it.
I have the Aluminum one, knurling is a little less sharp and it has a lighter feel, I think I'd buy one in stainless or brass. But they're worth it, especially since you can't get ARCs anymore.
I recently lost my ARC AAA Premium and purchased a Peak Snow-colored 3LED High Power as a replacement. I'm loving the Peak all the way and not looking back. The Peak is much brighter and has a better overall beam. When they come out with the old ARC style bodies (which should be soon), the light will be darned near perfect. The body construction seems to be very similar to the ARC, so I'd guess that water resistance would be very similar.
I have one on order, along with a couple of other Peaks. Trying to satisfy my Arc craving, you know.
The 1AAA 3LED Peak can be had in 3 outputs: standard, hi, and ultra. The standard and hi are on the website; the ultra can be ordered from the custom shop for not much more $. Peak does not overdrive their standard and hi-power lights like Arc did (tho the Ultra is overdriven), so output is diminished relative to the Arc. I have a 1AAA 1LED Peak (standard output), and its about half as bright as an Arc. But Peaks are more of a spot light whereas the Arc has more sidespill (flood), so a direct comparison is a little difficult. I wish that Peak had more spill.
I'm guessing that the high power 3LED is about equivalent in output to the Arc, and the ultra should be brighter. [Edited: Buzzbait says the high power 3LED is brighter than the Arc, so go with that. That should make my Ultra pretty bright].
Quality seems top notch. If Peak will shorten the light body to Arc-size and crank up the output of their 1LED, they will have a real contender.
A few month ago, I found my Arc AAA laying outside in my gravel driveway. I immediately came inside, and wrapped the barrel with a strip of yellow, and a stip of red, electrical tape. At least I'll be more likely to find it if (or rather, WHEN) I lose it again. I prefer low key colors but I sure don't want to lose my Arc. It's good to know that Peak is out there when I do.
