I'm cruising the net, looking for mods for my MiniMag 2AA... found a few good ones, but I'm not the best for electonics skill.

found this one, and want to see if anyone else has used it
http://www.opalec.com/products.html

it's a production peice like the Lambda Ill Pill, but fully and easily reversable. Just a drop in peice, and easy to put in.

Thinking of ordering one at month end.

See thread below

However, check out CPF. I have heard many great things about it. I am thinking of getting one myself, but the price of the conversion and a Mini-mag would be about the same price as an Inova X5!

Bought my minimag this summer, it's a new/current model... it'll work in mine...

CPF is what had me looking for mods like the ill pill. Eric "Normark" here on BFC had me looking there when I was asking about either mods or a new light.

I was looking at the Inova X5MT, but $45(USD) is the cheapest I've seen, and then I'd have an extra minimag running around. Easier(and cheaper) for me to just order a mod. Only about $45 Canadian(plus shipping).

CPF had me looking at the Lambda Illumination Pill drop-in, and the mad-max drop-in mod. This opalec mod just caught me today in my hunt, and seems to be what I need.

I'm very pleased with my Princeton Tec "Attitude". 3 white LED bulbs run ~ 200 hours on 4 AAA batteries. $17.50 plus shipping from ZBattery.com. I have no relationship with this company other than as a satisfied customer. Candlepowerforums .com has a great review on the product.

The Opalec is basicaly the same brightness as the PT Attitude. The 10 hours of constant regulation is something you really come to depend on. I use one and I just got my dad one. I love it, just don't expect that your buying a spotlight.

I already have my spotlight-type flashlight... my military 90degree one. see the spot about 100-150feet out. the light is visible for being spotted about a mile out.

the minimag(and my newly purchsed solitaire) are for indoor use, basically for moving around in the dark, and for repair.

I have the Opalec and the older Innova x5. I like both but keep in mind that the X5 puts out much more light with it's 5 slightly brighter LEDs. It also uses much more expensive batteries.
The Opalec is an excellent design and will extract every last "drop" of energy out of common AA batteries.
I took two AA's out of my Opalec Mini-Mag (working, with the low energy red LED glowing) and dropped them into a standard Mini-Mag. There wasn't enough power to drive the bulb in the Mini Mag beyond a very faint orange glow. The Opalec worked with the same batteries. Very impressive.

Says the Inretech is alot brighter than the Opalec. www.inretech.com
I've been looking at stuff about both. The Opalec is $27 for the drop in kit. Here's a review: http://ledmuseum.home.att.net/newbeam.htm
The Inretech is $30 for the assembled light, $20 for the kit. Can be bought here: http://www.inretech.com/store/index2.cfm?CFID=89111&CFTOKEN=26623292

I'm really getting into this flashlight stuff. CPF is so

The Opalec NewBeam is one my favorite LED products because it:

1) Takes less than three minutes to install without tools
2) Produces a bright, white light for close to ten hours
3) Has a red, low battery indicator LED

I installed the Opalec NewBeams in all of my Mini Maglites.

i don't have any experience with the newbeam module although i've heard a lot of good things about it, but i just wanted to say that if longer runtime is not important to you and you are looking for more power in the same size package the drop in luxeon modules sold on cpf are really nice. the madmax module from dat2zip is reversible as well. just wanted to give people another option in a minimag conversion.
