Anyone us yojimbo 2 as edc/utility knife?

I posted this over on the spyderco forum but didn't get much feedback so I thought I'd ask here. I have been eyeing this knife for awhile and was hoping to get some opinions from you guys. I'm not looking for a sd knife, this would be just another edc for me. I started carrying the military last year and I like it so much I sold off my pm2 as it wasn't getting any carry time. I was thinking maybe the yo2 would be something to fill that "mid size" void left by the pm2 and would be different enough from the military to win some love and pocket time.

Any thoughts from those of you who have (or have had) this knife? What do you like about it? How does it perform in everyday use? How do you like it compared to Military/pm2?

Thanks in advance for your opinions,

Lance

I can't speak of a comparison between the yojimbo 2 and paramilitary since I don't have the paramilitary. But I do carry and use my yojimbo 2 and it is great. It slices like a razor and is very easy to sharpen due to the straight edge. It carries nicely and feels great in the hand. It is one of my favorites. There is an s90v version coming out later this year. Might be the perfect knife to carry and I am getting one!
Good luck, you can't go wrong with the yojimbo.

I've had the Yo 2 for a while now and it's a very nice lightweight knife with an absolutely wicked hollow ground wharncliffe blade. There are two things about the knife that I do not like one is the compression lock, it's kind of painful after a few closings. Two is the narrow butt of the knife I generally prefer handles that are about the same width all the way to the end. The Military is my favorite folding knife and in my opinion the Yojimbo 2 doesn't even come close to it.

I have a few spyderco's, ranging from Delicas, Enduras, and obviously the Yojimbo 2. I own four, and have given away another two Yo2s.

I carry it as a tool, and it's my EDC in the right front pocket. It's cut everything from envelopes, to breaking down boxes, etc. It's a box cutter on roids, with great blade steel, and what I consider excellent ergonomics. The lock is also strong.

The tapering of the grip is to account for the fact that your hand forms a cone when it's closing, smaller at the base (pinky in edge up) and wider at the top (index finger in that forward grip).

I'm a huge fan of the knife. Like one of the previous posters, I also await the S90V version (originally suppose to be fall of last year).

That's my opinion. To be fair, I am a very real fan of Janich's Martial Blade Concepts (MBC) curriculum. That being said, if I thought the knife was a stinker, I'd tell you (and would have bought a few less ;)

I just got one. I plan on giving it the works. Idk if it'll grow on me though. It's cool but I like a more full handle.
Have you seen the Spyderco Superleaf? I love that knife. It hasn't left my pocket since I first got it. I haven't even pimped it yet and it's still super sweet to me. I just received a second one and that one will get fully pimped. It has the same compression lock yet I fee it was executed better in fit finish and functionality. Nice thick blade of Vg10. Pretty light weight even though I don't care about weight. I carry a 3 pound gun everyday so a 3-7 oz knife is nothing to me.

My Rotation these days has been my PM2, Yo2 and Manix 2 LW....with a SB Ladybug in my coin pocket. The Manix 2 LW gets the most EDC time, with the Yojimbo 2 next. The Yojimbo 2 makes a great EDC, mainly because I love Wharncliffe blades so much. If I didn't own the Manix 2 LW, the Yojimbo 2 would see way more EDC time.

I love my Yo2, though I have never had a PM2. I am waiting for the FFG Manix2 for a comparison. My Yo2 does everything and the tip is much stronger than some may think. The compression lock is great and opens and closes easily. The only reason I will purchase more knives is only because I love knives, but if the Yo2 was your only folder it would be sweat choice.

I got this one a few weeks back and had never handled one prior to this one---Impulse buy but that's normal for me.

I wanted a Super Utility knife and I have to say this fits the bill!!!

I work construction and in my off season I've done "Handyman" work for the last 20yrs. I've used it pretty much for the last three weeks and I really like the blade shape

The thumb ramp is excellent to choke up for detailed work and as mentioned above the hollow grind is an awesome cutter. I've stripped wire, cut down cardboard, open qwikcrete bags, scored wood, plastic and cut fiberglass insulation is a pinch---just a great blade. I was concerned about the tapered handle due to I have large hands but honestly feel it's one of my most comfortable to grip knives I own.

I've had a PM2 for a few years and felt obligated to give the Yo2 a try for the money I invested. For now the Yo2 is still my work carry every day since it's arrival. I'll carry another knife as well but this one is the dedicated "work knife".

My Yo2 is a cardboard slicing fiend. The high hollow grind makes it so small behind the edge it just slices right through and doesn't bind up like other thinner knives.

Darn it, Paul, you're going to make me by one.

The Yo 2 is great for EDC. Obviously it has the same lock as the PM 2, but the ergos and blade shape are so different that it would be quite the departure from carrying your Military. It's an awesome knife, I bought a second "just in case".

I'm a big yo 2 fan, that and the manix 2 get the most pocket time, but the Yojimbos blade shape is just awesome

Yojimbo2.

I like mine.
It gets more pocket time than the others.
Lrg Griptilian, ZT 350, tenacious, skyline.

The compression lock is great.
Have not encountered the pain issue someone else commented about.

It's a purpose built knife that complements
my SAK super tinker.

I carried a Yojimbo (1) almost everyday for nearly 8 years, now I have a Yojimbo 2 and it is even better. Great knife for EDC or even SD. I did drop a new Yo2 and broke the tip off, I took it to Spyderco and they made it look perfect again.

Well used Yo

Do it Blaine, you only live once ;) Seriously, I'm really liking everything about the knife. Something about it intrigued me even though I felt it was a bit odd looking.

I love my yo 2 and edc it as much as any of my other knives. The biggest drawbacks for me are the ultra fragile tip, and it takes up quite a bit of pocket space for a knife of its size. Neither of those gripes keep me from enjoying it however.

The Yojimbo2 (and 1) are some of the best cutters in my herd. Feels great in the hand, but as bro5.0 mentioned, it does take up some pocket real estate due to the handle/blade width (edge to spine). Imagine how "handy" an overbuilt box cutter with premium steel might be ;)
Also, the tip can reach places that a broader drop point might have issues getting into.

You can probably tell from my sig banner that I love the PM2. However, I would be happy to take the Yojimbo in it's place on the daily.
The way light works with the hollow grind is also pretty BA :D
