Anyone use a neck sheath/holster?

Considering purchasing one for my ultratech from linos kydex. I know it's a tool and will get natural wear but hate to pay this much for my microtechs and have them scratched up by rubbing keys and such. My other knives I dont care so much but would like to keep my ultratech's and utx85's in pristine condition while still using them on a daily basis. Just not sure if a neck sheath would be more convenient than pocket carry with the clip? Use a knife every day at work and thought I could leave it hanging outside my shirt when I am using it often for easy access, and inside the shirt when not needed. Dont want a belt holster bc I have quite a few tools on my belt at work and no room for one more
 
Just my mileage but I cant stand things around my neck. Not even necklaces or chains. I say just keep your front right pocket for knives only. I carry my phone in the same pocket as the knife because it has a rubber otter box on it so it wont damage the blade, also a leather wallet could be swapped for the phone. Hope this helps.
 
I have a couple from Linos and have carried neck knives of various kinds in the past. I normally carry the knife inside my shirt. It works fine for me as long as the knife isn't too heavy.
 
I don't particularly care for neck knives and about the only time I carry a knife that way is on the water (boating), primarily on a kayak.

With folders, you can use a pocket slip to protect the knife from damage from other pocket materials.
 
I carry a neck knife everyday. First thing I put on in the morning, after pants and socks. It's a knife that's always there, down to where I go take a shower. It's nice to always have a knife at hand.

Exactly the review I was wanting to hear, went ahead and ordered a neck sheath to try out anyway and see how I like it. Really wish I could find a leather pocket slip with a pocket clip so it slides into pocket just like using the knife clip but in it's own protective sheath that clips inside pants pocket
 
I neck carry daily. Small ring knife custom on a ball chain. I also often carry a larger fixed blade on my neck.

I've tried it a few times, but don't particularly care for neck carry. About the most weight I can take without going nuts is a Spyderco ARK. Most of my kneckers I simply pocket carry. Fixed blades that don't already have a flat sheath, I'll make a thin sleeve from leather or kydex. And any folders I don't want scratched up, will go in leather of some form.
 
The key to hanging things around your neck is to make sure that the breakpoint on the chain is less than the breakpoint of your neck. Use the ball chain, or use leather/paracord with a breakaway clasp in it somewhere. I've seen guys get their homemade neck lanyards get caught in things with results that varied from hilarious to (literally) bloody dangerous.
 
Depending on what type of work I'm doing, I sometimes carry the ESEE Izula II as a neck knife. The sheath set up allows for a paracord lanyard to be attached to what can also be worn on a belt. The convenience of having your knife in front of you and accessible is remarkable if you are needing to be constantly cutting. The White River ATK is a lighter neck knife that is a good option too. Outside of a work or a woods setting I'm not sure I'd carry a knife this way all the time, but I'm glad to have the option for when it makes the most amount of sense.
 
The paramount factor is... not the knife but the sheath. Depending on the weight tolerance of your neck, you can carry almost any knife as a necker. But the sheath must have an absolutely reliable retaining action... while still allowing an easy draw. Not many brands or makers achieve this, sadly.
 
My pockets are full and I like to deep conceal, so I either AIWB-carry a folder, or carry a small fixed blade as a neck knife. As mentioned above, sheath retention is critical for upside down carry of fixed blades. Also as others have mentioned, make sure you use a break-away, like POP barrel connector or a break-away knot. If the knife is on the heavy side, you can double up the cord to distribute the weight better.
 
I tried carrying a few, lightweight fixed blades in a neck sheath when I hiked a few times. I hated it. If you are really worried about scratching up a knife, for $20, it's worth a try. If it doesn't work out, like you said, you aren't out a ton of $.

I am also a proud member of the cargo pant fan club. Wallet left side cargo. Phone right side cargo. Keys left front. Knife right front. MT on belt or left side cargo. Nothing to scratch my knife. :D

Would a cargo pant be allowed at your work?

You can try a 9mm magazine pouch (single stack magazine), it fits the Ultratech/UTX85 about perfect. And there are a lot more leather/other materials too that you can choose from. You can form it easily enough if it’s too snug and there are holster treatment wax’s that you can coat the inside of the pouch with to make the draw even easier. Just a suggestion as another option.
