Anyone use a Ratmandu in the field?

They work well in the field. I have convexed the edge on mine so it has a better edge geometry. Good stout tough blade for field use.

My only complaint is the choil. I see it as a worthless feature ona knife this size, and in use it has a tendency to get hung up when performing tasks such as skinning etc.

The blade steel SR101/52100 has become my absolute favorite steel as it is very tough while taking a very great edge and holding it exceptionaly well. I was so impressed with the RMD's steel and edge holding characteristics that I had a custom chopper made for me from the same material by Tad Lynch.

Great knife just wish it didn't have the choil.

the rmd is fine for field use, a little large for game processing but in my experience the choil wasnt the problem if you choke up. i re did the edge on mine and thinned it out. it did roll a little on chopping bone, but bone is damn hard.

One of the best knives in that size range although the edge should be thinned down a bit. They come pretty thick but then that's a personal preference based on how you're going to use it. I don't baton much.

They look better satin.
