anyone use a tooth whitener?

This is a good question since the whitening toothpastes that I have tried had my gums feel like they were on fire after 3 days of using them. Anybody else have a problem with sensitivity also?

I just began the Crest Whitestrips 14 day program. You have to use them twice a day x 30 minutes, though the box said back to back half hours is acceptable. Taste like peroxide, since that's what is on the strips. Can't see a difference yet. I'll post back in a fortnight!

I'm interested in this too. The only reason I haven't gotten around to trying some is certain whiteners make your teeth look see through after too many uses. Unfortunately I've seen these effects on people I know...

edit:did some research. "Greying" is a result of the wearing away of your tooth enamel.

Question:
Crest White strips caused greying! I am 45 and my teeth and gums are in good condition, but yellowed from coffee, tea, etc.

I tried Crest white strips this AM for only 20 minutes. To my horror they caused greying of the teeth, or what looks like they took away some enamel, leaving the tooth almost "see-through". Have you ever heard of this or what could cause it? ...Visitor from California

Answer:
It is impossible for the Crest White Strips to take away enamel.

I'm going to try crest white strips myself for economic/convenience reasons. I may have a rembrandt kit lying around though that i'll take a look at. here is a good google answers write up:

I agree, my sister used to work as a dental hygenist and she said that the dentist she worked for always advised against using whitening products.

Are you both talking about the Crest WhiteStrips or some other whitening method? As far as I can tell the Crest WS seem to be enamel-safe. Neosporin provided a good quote, and this test came back with the conclusion that " <Crest White Strips> did not soften or etch surface enamel or root dentin..." as seen on the first page of the PDF.

Hi All-

Just brush, floss, and use a quality dental rinse/mouthwash for good oral health.

Another inexpensive and more gradual way to go at tooth whitening is to gargle / rinse with hydrogen peroxide once a day. It takes more time, but it does work and it's dirt cheap.

Real knife collectors just brush with Flitz.
Hey now, an idea I can dig. Have a Dremmel tool and several buffers to go with it...compound, I guess the green? Then brush with Flitz?

I spent several hundred dollars on a dentist UV whitening treatment. The results were OKAY, not terribly impressive and didn't last.

I then tried the Crest 10 day whitestrips and it was highly effective. After 5 days I stopped using it because I don't want super white teeth. I'll save the rest for a few months down the line.

my gf used whitestrips, ans some other paint on stuff, both of which were ok.
The whitest my teeth were was when I had my tongue pierced-every time I put anything in y mourh besides water, I was told to rinse with listerine for 30 seconds. This will clean your teeth. Also, make sure you get enough calcium. Drink milk for strong healthy teeth.
