Anyone use instrument strings for snare wire?

I just restrung my mountain dulcimer and thought I would try and use the strings to make some snares. I saw a woodpile that would have rabbits run into it as I approached. I thought it might be a good idea to set a few snares in the main runs into the pile as I walked by to go hunting. I hate to leave them for long since I don't own the property and can't check them frequently. Thought maybe there might be some players out there that have tried this before and could offer some suggestiions. Regards Loosearrow
