AOL blows. I can't really afford DSL right now so I figured if I'm going to be stuck with dial up Juno would save me $20 a month. Anyone have any experience with Juno, good or bad? Thanks.

Check out dslextreme.com. They're a great smller ISP that has fantastic customer service. They also offer cheap dial up starting @ $12.95 / mo. or as low as $9.95/ mo. if paid annually. Then when you're ready to make the jump to DSL, you won't have to change email addresses!

I really support Juno (regular) for $9.99/month

No disconnects even if I am idle for an hour or so (that may be a bad thing for some of you).

I use an External US Robotics (3 COM) 56k Modem and consistently get 45.2k connection.

It's fast. Faster than earthlink or pacbell/sbc dialup.

I think the modem has to do mostly with the fast transfer rates and perhaps no one up in the boonies where I live uses them too much.

BTW, I cannot get DSL here since I am about 1,000 feet out of range from the SBC hub :(

Juno's not bad. I signed on during a special. I thought it was just an introductory offer, but they keep on charging me only $4.95 a month. I've had their free e-mail for years. You don't have to go on the web to access it.

It's a real relief from AOL. Juno is very laid-back. You don't get inundated with teenage popups and that busy busy busy home page.

They have some gimmick out now called Speedband which supposedly improves text access through a phone modem, but I'm not into worrying about it.

You guys just keep typing slowly and I can handle it. :p

I personally use Cable, but if I ever had to go back to dial up for some reason, I think I would try out Net Zero High Speed- $13.95 or $14.95 a month (I forget). There standard service is $9.99 and I use there 20 hour a month free service as a back up in case my cable ever goes out.

Net Zero and Juno merged last year and are now the same service, keeping the two names for those familiar with each one.
