Does the blade still chip after you put secondary 40degree edge on it with sharpmaker?I love the design, and might be getting it,after recent interest in scandi blades!Pros and Cons are welcome, and also other Spydie alternatives, cant wait for Pattada to come out,any info about it?Migght be getting that one instead!

I use the nillaka for some fine woodworking tasks at my shop. It is a veneering beast. It would probably be just fine as an edc. I've done some limited cutting in kiln dried hard woods like poplar and oak and it bites hard. Great knife!

And I've also chopped garlic with it... It is a light saber to vegetables

I used to carry and use one. It is chunkier and more expensive than the EnZo Birk, which I personally prefer, but ultimately I sold both and now stick with fixed blade puukko.

When I did carry and use it, I greatly appreciated the blade shape and geometry but the sharp corners on the handle were a bit undesirable. Lockup was very good but there was a wide open spot to disengage the lock, which was a little scary sometimes. Ultimately if the ergonomics suit you I think it's a fine folding puukko, but for me personally it was more art than function. Your results will obviously vary, and I think it's worth trying regardless. It IS, after all, a freaking beautiful knife.

My Nillaka was the most disappointing Spyderco I think I have received. I was in great anticipation to receive a full scandi bevel, and it came with a secondary applied from factory. I was pretty disgusted that this eliminated my being able to experience this knife as the original design intended. It is very easy to apply a micro-bevel if use dictates the need. But, much more difficult to return to full scandi :-( I quickly removed the shoulders, but still upset that Spyderco did this.

I think you were in the very small minority of those disappointed to see the zero scandi disappear, compared to all the complaints from those early buyers and users who ended up unexpectedly with chipped edges.

I wish they'd do a sprint Nilakka with a tougher carbon steel and bring back the zero grind.

AGREED - I would trade mine in heartbeat (trade the s30v on this model). I think this steel was a mistake for this design intent.

I suspect that if some of those "majority" users had taken the time to grind away the factory belt ground edges, to review fresh steel, that there would have had improved performance. I saw some pretty inpressive use of the original design with very little damage to edge. I also believe the resultant chipping had something to do with the user application. This design was a great example of Spyderco stepping out there.

I really like mine(original grind), but as others have said the edge will chip if used on hard materials . I have lightly sharpened out the chips on mine, and it seems to not be as much of a problem. It is probably one of the most scary sharp knives that I own, matter of fact I have cut myself with it! Be careful closing it!
The only thing I don't care for is the deep carry pocket clip. The knife is so far down in your pocket it makes it hard to grip the knife to pull it out of your pocket. I think a little less tension on the clip would help. I think a lanyard hole added to the design would be a great addition. You could add a lanyard to aid in retrieval from the pocket then.

I edc a nilakka, the only "problem" is a fat handle, but its a really good grip.

the microbevel makes all the worlds of difference and the knife is a cutting demon. Also the micro bevel is so easy to maintain

No regrets to the purchase. The knife is on point
