Anyone use QuickClot?

It's the powder stuff that's suppose to stop bleeding very quickly. I was wondering two things. Does the few seconds heat rise actually cause burns? Or is it just enough heat to get hot?

It sounds like one has to get the proportion right for it to work. How critical is that?

Thanks

Dave,

I have only used it once. Kept it in my emergency car kit and at one point got a nasty gash on my shin from a motorcycle chain. Thing bled like crazy and I just poured the powder directly on the wound. I could feel heat as it reacted with my blood but no burning. It pretty much did what they claimed and stopped the bleeding within I would say 15 to 20 seconds.

they say the heat reaches a maximum of 140 degrees F.
*Note* When I cleaned the wound and irrigated it I felt more heat generated by the clot and i assume excess powder is the cause. (I may have used too much)

Yes it can cause burns/tissue trauma. That's one of the limitations QuickClot was noted for in Army testing for battlefield conditions. Another limitation is that it's more effective for surface bleeding that for major deep bleeds. It's difficult for the quickclot to reach and have good effect on those deeper arterial/venous lacerations.

Best,
Christopher

Where is it avaliable for purchase? I want one in my backpacking survival kit. So are burns/tissue trauma the only setback or side effect to this stuff?

yes has anyone any store that sells it??

here on swiss its not on the market and as working with guns and knives that thing is needed!

thanks!
