Has anyone put the Buck Punk through it's paces yet? Any owner opinions... comparison to the 105, 119? The Hoodlum? Thanks!

PS I'm still awaiting the Buck 'Made Guy'... I hear it comes with instructions re how to make concrete slippers for those who talk about it too much...

I ordered one today. I found a major internet retailer saling them for $100 with free shipping.
I'll make some comments when I get it as well as do some side by sides with more traditional Buck fixed blades. g

Congrats - you must have gotten the last one they had for sale at that price (I just tried to buy one.). I had it 'watched' - to order one - awaiting a use-report. I've fondled one locally - $145 + s/t - hard to buy at that price point, especially since I paid $113 for the Hoodlum - shipped. The handle was uncomfortable in my hand. It just didn't 'speak' to me - the Hoodlum sure did. I'll hold out for a new 124!

Just bought one today for my birthday. So far, I'm pleased. Sharp out of the box, acceptable sheath (not fantastic though), weight and balance about what I expected (and was looking for.) It will probably be a few days before I can get out in the yard and give it a little test, but when I do I'll write a little update.

I paid $150. I know I could've got it cheaper online, but I was at the Army surplus store and they had it right there so since it was my birthday, I popped.

I look forward to your first impressions / comparison of the knife.

I've been considering buying the Punk as the main knife I take hiking / backpacking it looks like it will fill that role quite well, but I would like additional opinions from people before I buy it.

That evil-bay seller won't sell me anything! I have no idea why. They sold another one today. I have a great history on evil-bay... I pay and pay... and don't complain. Go figure. I even tried to buy his Buck 309 with water buffalo scales - no dice. Sportsmans Guide - with their deluge of sale catalogs - would not sell me their sale-priced Puma fb knives years ago. They finally told me - and posted it in their subsequent sale flyers - that they were illegal in Alabama! Huh? I asked the local county deputies - they said you could carry it in your pocket, even, as long as when you sit, you don't do yourself an injury. Some cities (Birmingham) have their own more restrictive laws. I hope you get your C-note 'Punk'... keep us apprised. I may have to see if my local guy can do a bit better... I buy lots of knives there... it is good having a local store to peruse new offerings. The 'no-sale' may be a message...

Well my Punk made it through the New Hampshire sort today so I may get it tomorrow. Excited about this one.
I'm planning on making it a hiking/camp knife as well.
No reply from the Kydex sheath maker. Maybe I'll hear something later this week.
My guess is I'd have to send him the knife to pattern the sheath.
It would be really cool if Buck set a dealer up with patterns and offered these type of sheaths as options on their website.

The "Punk" is here. Freaking cool ass knife. Paper slicing sharp and good weight, balance and overall feel.
The handles are a little thin for me and I'm not crazy about the rough texture either. A grippy rubber handle would be a plus for me...think Alpha's rubber handles.
Love the coating, steel, shape and grind on these knives.

More later.

I love mine.. It was given to me by Karen Hood .. With her permission I had it coated to match my hunting side arm. She let me see and hold Ron's original Prototype of this knife. It started as a Hoodlum and Ron reshapped it to be this cool knife.. I keep it in my pack or my JEEP at all times.

Awesome:thumbup:

From looking at the knife I was thinking it would be a little thin, but I would think you could add some liners and make them a little thicker.

The more I look at it the more I am tempted to buy it.

Good story Rich!!

That is camouflaged so well that I almost didn't see it. ;)

Another thing I like about this knife is that it's weight is about the same as a regular 110.

Follow-up to my tale of woe. A phone call to the evil-bay seller revealed no reason as to why my purchase was blocked - he said he could take my order by phone with no problem. I declined, recalling how that would be circumventing the evil-bay process. He said he'd check into the problem and get back to me - that was five days ago - nothing. I called evil-bay re the problem - talked to a young lady who didn't use English as her first language, but could read from a list of responses I had already read on their 'help' site - totally a waste of my time. I trekked across town yesterday - to our local knife emporium (CrimsonTideShooter has a 14 minute YouTube video visiting said emporium - in a locked thread in the 'General' sub-forum.) and fondled one again - intent on bringing one home. The handle is horrible in comparison to the Hoodlum - too thin and flat edged to the point of being uncomfortable just to hold, not having tried to cut with it. I decided against it's purchase. Is it me, or did they not size and finish the handle very well? Even a small-handed young lady will want a handle with less sharp edges, I'd think. Small fb handles can be small and still be properly shaped and comfortable - witness the Buck 102 in comparison to a Buck 119 or 192.

Did my local shop get a batch of poorly executed handles - or has someone else noted the same problem? I still like the knife's style - just not the handle - or name! What do you new owners think?
