Are these a practical item on the SAK's. Who out there has actually used the corkscrew on their SAK, and for what?

I've used it to open wine, not very often but have done so.

Not good for much else. However, not much else will open a bottle of wine either though.

I guess it could be done away with on most models these days.

I've used them in the past for their intended purpose, removing the corks from wine bottle. They pretty much suck though compared to a real corkscrew tool.

Ditto everything else on there, screwdrivers, scissors, etc. They'll get by in a pinch, but are poor substitutes compared to real tools.

I have opened hundreds of bottles of wine (I'm a bartender), and using the screws on SAKs even with experience is a royal PITA! I think they are just about completely useless. They take up a lot of space, are extremely difficult to use, and don't seem like a very useful pocket tool to me...

I've used it. It's not as good as a lot of other openers, but it gets the job done. Better than trying to chew off the top of the bottle.

I've also used it to open wine on occasion, and I would describe it as 'moderately better than having no tool at all' for getting corks out of bottles.

I agree with this, though my SAK corkscrew last longer then the one in Laguiole knife. And my Laguiole was 4 times more expensive then my SAK.

I used the one on my sak explorer and bent it. now it sticks up a bit. I may just bust it off the rest of the way.

  That must have been one monster of a bottle!

You take your little lady into the woods for the weekend with a couple of bottles of vino, you'll suddenly understand it. I know I did. It's now my favorite knife.

In my bachelor pad, it's my only corkscrew. I agree, it's crappy as corkscrews come--with the exception of CCC corkscrews. But even before I started drinking wine, I didn't mind it being there because it was such a clever place for the mini-screwdriver.

There are times when I am proud owning a SAK with a corkscrew, like when I'm at a get together--and I can get any bottle open, in the dining room, before someone can walk to the kitchen and get a real corkscrew out of the drawer.

In NZ you better
have a SAK.

I have a SAK that lives in my kitcen drawer that is used exclusively as a wine and can opener as I own neither.

Hold the wine bottle between your knees and pull.

I've used mine many times at office parties and other occasions and when it is needed, it's been a life saver. A corkscrew is just one of those things where you never have one when you need one UNLESS you make it a habit to always have one. But, the one on my Juice now gets used more because it has a proper assist lever.

my SAK corkscrew (and my wifes)has saved the day a few times, i dont know what else they will do except open bottles but when ya need a corkscrew to open a bottle ya need one, nothing else really works, so yes i use mine a lot.

As someone said: a real lifesaver at office parties!

natural cork is no problem

but it sucks on these newish artificial corks and the overlong prosecco corks
