Hey guys,

So I picked up a TOR about a month and a half ago but I haven't used it. I bought it for looks, to be a safe queen type knife but I hate just having it sit around so I've had it up for trade but have had no good offers.

I don't think I'll be able to sell it for more than I paid for it so I'm thinking about just going ahead and using it.

So my question is, how do these guys perform? I know the handle on my TOR is very slick if my hands aren't moist so I only plan on using it in warm weather conditions when my hands will be wet and or sweaty.

Also I'm worried about the warranty. Though its never been used I'm not the first owner and I'm paranoid that I'm going to go to chop a sapling down and the knife is going to break where the blade meets the handle and I'll be $400 in the hole....

Speaking of which is the tang properly tapered where it meets the handle or is it squared off like cold steel and Ka bar knives?- which is a major point of weakness in the blade.

Just curious to hear your opinions! Thanks!

The tang extends in one piece down to the pommel screw which is welded in place. It's not some brazed on pakistani special or anemic rat tail tang.

Thank you! I had been wondering this for almost a month. I kept seeing pics of the weak looking cold steel tangs and was worried the Tor was a similar design. I think I'm going to use this guy.

i wouldn't buy a fallkniven i didn't intend to use.

they are just too good not to use.

over at another forum, where there is a dedicated fallkniven forum, i recall one poster got his hands on a second damascus NL5 Idun CX because he wanted to see what they were like to actually use as his original one is a safe queen.

Hey, I'm that guy from the other forum :)

I have and use a Fallkniven NL5 (which happens to be the cx version)

I haven't used it a whole lot yet, but have done some basic bushcraft type stuff, including some batoning appropriate to the size of the knife.

You don't have to worry about Fallkniven quality on any of their blades, and as you can see from the photo above, the NL series feature a full hidden tang construction.

The size of the NL1 Tor obviously lends itself to a hard use knife, batoning, chopping, and the likes. I see no reason why it wouldn't handle those tasks admirably.

On the very outside, really beating on the knife may possibly loosen the stacked leather handle, but the pommel nut can be tightened to correct this. (it's not real easy, but can be done with the correct tools)

As for the leather being slick, I find the grip on mine is getting better the more I use it, or you can rough it up a bit with a light sanding.

If you decide to use it, post your impressions for us

Just use it !
I currently use NL3 and NL1 models and just love them. Those are performing great on wood and VG10 is fantastic.
BTW you shouldn't worry about guarantee, Fällkniven's customer service is top notch and you can even reach the Peter, the Boss himself (well, that was a 2 years ago but I guess things haven't change)

I'm really considering it. I wrapped the handle to give it more grip. Only problem is that the sheath snap doesn't fit. But I can easily fix that if I keep it.
