I've used many hand setters like that one, though not that exact model. If you get things set up correctly (use a level hard surface for the base, a proper hammer, and a direct hit) it should work well for you.
The secret is making sure everything is lined up well and that you set the rivet with a single blow.

I have that exact setter, works well, just take your time, and like cpurcell said, make sure it's lined up. Strike with out hesitation, you should get it in one hit.
You'll probably split a few so practice with it first.
