Ive found a decent supplier of mild steel in the sizes i need for axe heads, but I havent heard of the specific mild steel variety. They call it A-36. Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

A-36 is very common structural steel.
Its pretty low carbon & wont make a good blade on its own.
Making a good axe of it would need a welded high carbon insert.

^What he said. Common low carbon steel. Would work for the body of a head but it won't hold an edge.
