I like the design, and am considering getting one as an EDC. Anyone have any feedback on the quality of this folder? I can't imagine how it couldn't be sturdy with a Ti handle and Ss liners, but I'd appreciate feedback anyway. Thanks.

Oh, by the way, hey everyone I'm new.

Welcome to Blade Forums I would search this site for it. I would have to say I have heard more bad than good about them. Personally I love Cold Steel products. A lot of people hate them. It is probably because they are spoiled from some of the products made by Jerry Busse or Chris Reeve. Cold steel cant quite compete with brands like these but for there price the are awesome an I highly recomend them. Anything by Cold Steel in San Mai I think is to expensive to make it worth purchasing with the exception of the trail master bowie since I only pay $190 for them.

Have you ever handled one of these? I have never commented about the looks of a knife before but this one is something else. It's a big, fat, "stubby" knife. It's nothing more than a "gimmick knife" and its asthetics are non-existant. Plus, the hook part of the pommel could get caught on your clothes. In a non-self defense situation, the worst thing is torn clothing. In a real SD situation, you don't want anything protruding from a knife that can get caught on something. If you like the locking system and want a similar knife that looks better and is "safer", take a gander at the CS Recon 1 folders. Same steel (AUS-8A), 1/2 longer blade (I like the clip point). No offense intended but after seeing one of these close up, I just couldn't hold it in. But that's just my opinion and you know what they say about those. In the end, it's your choice and that's cool.

Regards and good luck

I agree they look kinda crappy to me but I cant totally trash one without using or at least handling it.

The handles are Aluminum(Al) and not titanium(Ti). I sorta like the blade shape on this knife but agree about that gripivory thing sticking out the rear. I have read where a few people cut it off at the handle edges to get rid of it.

I bought a CS AK47 a while back but haven't had the opportunity until recently to carry and use it. For SD purposes it sits well in the hand (average large hand). The blade has a good sweeping belly for slashing and the point is well angled for nicking/pinning. The thumb stud feels (for me) to be in the perfect position for opening the blade (if you do not make use of the wave feature) as the thumb is right beneath it. I have considered grinding down the thumb stud as I do not like the wave feature but I have not done so yet - might never do it either as it might reduce the thumb contact surface. The plastic extension at the base of the handle can easily be ground off, but I have found that it can be useful - when punching the blade into the target one sometimes has an "involuntary" tendency to open the hand after contact with the target (hence work with the heavy bag is required to train oneself to keep the fist closed around the handle) - the extension can prevent the hand slipping off the back of the knife; especially so as the grip scales are aluminum and can become slippery with sweat etc. Also, the hook does not protrude beyond the flesh of the hand when the knife is gripped. The AUS 8A blade is a good length, locks up solidly and the locking pin is far enough forward of the hand that it cannot be inadvertently released as your hand twists around the handle. Although the blade belly has quite a sweep to it I find that control of the knife is good and it cuts most everyday items - fruit, cord, cardboard, plastic, leather etc without slipping. It is also a bit heavier than most as it is overbuillt - aluminum scales with full steel liners. So; do I like it? This knife is growing on me all the time. It might even become my EDC. The only negative is that I have to ensure that I keep the blade closed when extracting form the pocket as I do not like the wave feature - a small price to pay. (Note that I do not pass positive judgement easily - I have many CS, Spyderco, BM, Buck and a few Kershaw folders plus a Strider AR - but this knife is really growing on me.)

Just my opinion folks. If you have any specific questions just ask.

I had one for a while, it was pretty well made & solid, but i found 2 problems. from constant wave opening, which makes the blade open hard, a stress crack developed in the aluminum handle in front of the lock. these handles are aluminum, but i dont think they are hardened aircraft type, otherwise it would not have split.if you remove the handles, theres too much material removed from the inside where the frontal lock area is,which makes it weak.the other problem i noticed is when you release the lock to close, the blade moves fast to the closed position & if theres any fingers in the way, you can get cut.this i did not like at all.it seems to be the way the ultra lock is made.it was a fun knife, sharp, kind of different;maybe you'll have better luck with yours.oh i grinded the hook off the end flush with the back. it made a world of difference in size & looks........

Its got a really strong lock. Otherwise it doesn't appeal to me by the design or size. The only other appeal is the price really. I do understand it is stout and quite smooth but a little too specialized for my uses I guess. If it turns you on get one and tell us about it in a review.

I've read where the Spyderco Manix has a little bladeplay built into it's lock, allowing the blade to move up and down a little, and that several people do not like it for that reason. Also read where there is a group who do not mind that movement a bit. I've never read where anyone thought this knife was less than stout!

I've used cs ak 47 since two months now, and I think it's just a great knife for collection. It's very difficult to use it all days:I explain:

The mechanism is awful. Lot of sqeaking, not smooth at all!!

The handle is very uncomfortable to wear (not because it's a big handle, but because of the material)

The blade is ok, it cut like hell

The clip is really badly conceived. Too small to wear it with a jeans or work pants.

Not a good working knife for me.But it's just my opinion!:grumpy:

Mine never did that.

I have a Cold Steel AK-47, and I use it quite often. It has a good, solid feel. It is a bit heavy, but it is one of those knives that feels like a "folding fixed blade." It works well for me, but the design will not appeal to all.

Just my $.02
