I know these are new knives-ads just starting to show up in outdoor-hunting mags.

DiamondBlade friction forged knives.
Invented by a couple of engineers at BYU university in Utah.

Quotes

"Corriosion proof edge zone eliminates chemical etch dulling"
"Differentially hardened and tempered blade has an edge zone hardness of RHc 65-68 and spine hardness of RHc 42-45"

I have read in another review article the steel is D2 carbon yet at the edge area the "friction forging" renders it stainless. A dunk in salt water test was performed and the edge area of the blade did not rust but the rest of the blade did.

They are claiming this is "probibly the biggest legitimate improvement in the knife industry in over 40 years"

There is also a favorable quote on their ad by Wayne Goddard himself claming the blades will go over 300 cuts on rope and still be shaving sharp-compared to the normal best of 80 cuts with other knives.

What do you all think?
They have done something with D2 that nobody else can acheive?
I guess Diamond blade has never heard of the CPM steels, ZDP-189 ect?
We better quit buying other brands as they are now inferior??????????

It's just my two cents' worth, and worth no more I'm sure, but I wouldn't have a knife with an edge that hard. :thumbdn:

There have been a number of threads on this topic recently.
Search for "friction" as in Friction-forged.
Also search for "diamond"
Use the advanced search and search titles only using those single search terms. Search both the general discussion and the knife reviews and testing forums.

I have one and teamed up with my guide to skin out a brown bear. It held the edge well without having to touch it up. I am using it as a field dressing/skinning knife only. I use another knife for other non-field dressing chores. I like this knife alot.
