I saw this steel listed on Admiral's website as an alternative to L6. I'm tempted to order some and try it out. I might do a few short swords and machetes.

Has anyone tried this steel? Does it HT just like L6?

Thanks! :)

it is not L6, I have some that the "nice" people at Admiral misrepresented as L6 when I called them to buy steel for Damascus back before Aldo started selling steel. Aldo has flat L6 bar, it's not up on his website yet so contact him (tell him Page sent you)

Office: (862) 203-8160
Fax: (973) 689-9501
Email: aldo@njsteelbaron.com

his website which is still under construction is http://njsteelbaron.com/

I don't buy anything from Admiral anymore, and now that Aldo is carrying all of the blade steels, I have no reason to buy from any other steel supplyer

An Admiral rep did come on the forum and clarified the situation. There are two makers of L6 and there are significant differences. 8670M is 'similar' but also HTs differently.
The three are all very good steels but as a knife maker you may prefer one over the others. The point is that you want the same steel each time you order , not just an "equivalent" !!!
Aldos stuff is very good and it's consistant.

The 8670 is not near as deep hardening as real L6, so if you don't have a good way to anneal stuff, you may prefer it. Otherwise, it has NO advantages over L6. My humble opinion, of course. ;)

Aldo who? :D

Just hacking on Aldo, cuz he's the cat's meow; the pig's pajamas; the gorilla's nipples, etc... (you get the idea; he's a good dude to work with) ;) :)
